The swine slept through favors
ألم يأن أن يروى فؤاد متيم
Has not the time come for the heart of an ardent lover to be sated
عزمت على كتم الهوى فوشى به
I resolved to conceal my love, but it was betrayed
هلموا فعندي للمحبة والهوى
Come, for with me is love and passion’s cure
إذا غاب أهل الصدق عنك فإنما
Roses are red, violets are blue
رأيت بني الدنيا يؤمل نفعهم
I saw among people their hope for benefit
فالآن أحسن إن نثرت
So now it's best that I scatter
ولا تزل في سعود
In Saud, you continue
الخمر متلفة لدينك فاحذر
Wine ruins your faith, so beware
أطلت وحقي أن أطيل لأنني
I linger on, as I have every right,
لا يخدعنك ظاهر من باطن
Do not be deceived by an outward show,
أيا عاصي النصيحة والوصاة
O disobedient to advice and counselors
سلام وتقديم التحية واجب
Greetings are a duty
وإني على بعد الديار وربها
Though far from home, still I praise its Lord
بحمد الله يفتتح الكلام
In the name of God, let speech commence
وشي حكى روضة الآداب مودعة
What did the garden of literature say in farewell
معالم يفنى كل شيء وإنها
All landmarks pass away, yet she
رحلت وقد وجدت العيش مرا
I traveled and found life to be bitter
كناس الأنس بعد نواك خيس
After your company, other friends are worthless.
أنا مذ بنت يا أبا العباس
Since I was a girl, O Abu Al-Abbas
يا نائم الطرف عن سهدي وعن أرقي
O you who sleeps with eyes averted from my wakefulness and my vigil
من خدم المولى بإخلاصه
Whoever serves the Lord faithfully
يا ذا المعني بهذا الذكر تسمعه
O you who is concerned with this mention, you hear it
أيا ذا الفضل والمنن
O you of bounty and favor
بركات رسل الله غير خفية
The blessings of God's messengers are not hidden
علم الحديث لكل علم حجة
The science of Hadith is proof for every science
صفا لي ورد الحب حتى وردته
The rose of love was purified for me until I attained it,
لعمري لقد ذقت الهوى فوجدته
By my life! I have tasted love and found it
ماذا أقول ولا عتب على القدر
What can I say and no blame on fate
الناس قد رحلوا وأنت مقيم
The people have departed while you remain,
دليل علاك ليس على اعتراض
Your ascendance is not to be disputed,
لبيك من مخلص موال
I respond from a loyal devotee
متى تنجلي عن ناظر لوعة الهوى
When will the anguish of love cease to afflict
وأتتني الأربعون وما
I reached forty, and yet
بأوجد مني مذ نأيت وإنما
Since you left, my only comforts are endurance and patience
تقربت إلا في رضى الأم والأب
I sought nearness only through pleasing my mother and father,
نقضت عرى صبري وأبرمت ضدها
I will only output the English translation of the poem:
أتدري من تبارز بالذنوب
Do you know who defies with sins
أوخطب فرقتكم لدي قليلا
Oh how I miss you, even just a little
ثوى لك في قلبي غرام مبرح
A joyous passion has made its home in my heart
حننت إلى العهد الذي كان فانقضى
I yearned for the era that has passed and gone
شربت كؤوس الحب صرفا وليس لي
I have drunk the cups of love continuously, yet I have no inclination for the spray of union, nor rapture.
كتمت الهوى حتى تبدت سماته
I concealed my love until its traits appeared,
وجدت ولا طب لما أنا واجد
I found no cure for what ails me,
الخوف والأنس شيء ليس يتفق
Fear and intimacy are not compatible
ما خمر العقل فهو خمر
Wine that intoxicates the mind is wine,
ثق بالإِله فإنه
Trust in God, for He
إن الكبائر للطاعات مفسدة
Sins corrupt acts of obedience,
يا نازحا عني ولو
O you who left me, even if
قل للنسيم إذا الصباح أعله
Say to the breeze when the morn rises bright,
أصخ فلخير العالمين مناقب
He proclaimed the virtues of the best of mankind
علاؤك مضمون وسعدك واضح
Your glory is assured and your fortune clear,
لعزك ذلت الأمم
For your glory nations bowed down
هاك عن هذا النبي المصطفى
Behold, of this Prophet Mustafa
إذا بهرت للهاشمي دلالة
When Hashimi's signs became clear
لكم من فؤادي خلص الود والحب
My heart's sincere love and affection are yours
تصبر إذا نابتك للخطب شدة
Be patient when hardships assail you,
ماذا أقول ولا عتب على الزمن
What can I say, and no blame on time,
رأيت ذنوب العالمين قبيحة
I saw the ugly sins of the two worlds,
زرعت بماء الدمع في القلب روضة
I planted a garden in my heart with tears,
فضحت بدمعي سر قلبي صبابة
My tears revealed the secret of my heart impetuously,
قل للمحدث الصوفي من
Say to the Sufi preacher, who
فسما به وهو النهاية
He is sublime in his majesty and might
توكل إذا نابتك يوما ملمة
When afflictions befall you one day,
يهن الجزيرة منك أي حسام
O protector of this peninsula, no sword equals yours
ضعوا فوق قلبي راحة الصبر إنني
Place upon my heart the comfort of patience, for I
كملت بنعت محمد خير الورى
I completed the attributes of Muhammad, the best of creation
أسير الخطايا عند بابك واقف
I stand a prisoner of sins at Your door
صرحت بالحب إذ لم يجد تلميح
I confessed my love when hints were unavailing,
قل لمن يحسدكم
Tell those who envy you
كانت للمسرة معهدا
She was a source of joy for me,
رضا الله أعلى ما ارتجته عبيده
God's pleasure is the highest aspiration of His servants,
ذكرتك فارتاح الفؤاد صبابة
I remembered you and my heart found rest, refreshed,
وأدور مياس العواطف أصبحت
As the compass of emotions revolves,
يا من له شيم تملكه
O you whose nature is perfect
أعدد لضيفك أهبة الإِكرام
Prepare the finest hospitality for your guest
أما يمين محمد
Muhammad's right hand and his left
بدا علم للحب يممت نحوه
A sign of love appeared, I hastened towards it
وجد وسهد ودم يسفك
Passion and pillows and bloodshed
لم تبق معلوة إلا خصصت بها
No virtue remained unattributed to you,
رشوا بماء الورد ضيفا لنا
Sprinkle with rose water a guest of ours
كل من قاس نبيا بسواه
Whoever compares a prophet to others
خذها إليك أبا إسحاق عن عجل
Take it from me, O Abu Ishaq, hastily
يا نسيم الريح يهفو سحرا
O breeze of the wind blowing magic at dawn,
أغيب وعندي بالوفاء حضور
I am absent yet still present in spirit through my loyalty,
سلوا علماء الحب عما أكنه
Ask the scholars of love, about my secret passion
أعد نظرا في نسبة الفضل والنسك
Reconsider the ratio of virtue and devotion
اعمل بآثار النبي
Follow the deeds of the Prophet, for they are the clear light,
يا سيد الرسل المكين مكانه
O Master of Messengers, exalted is his station,
أولى الأمور بستر
The best of matters is veiling
قبح الإله الملحدين
God denounced the atheists
يا حاسد النعمة في غيره
O envier of blessings in others,
ردوا عبرة تهمي كما انهمل القطر
Return a lesson that grieves as rain drips down
مقامات أهل الدين عند بني الدنيا
The status of the pious with the people of this world
تمنيت من وصل الحبيب اختلاسة
جحدت الهوى حتى تبدت شهوده
خليلي ما للقلب يهفو من الأسى
دموعي أبت إلا انسكابا لعلها
ظمئت وأجفاني بدمعي فيض
طويت الحشا مني على حر لوعة
غلا الحب فابذل فيه نفسك طائعا
قفوا فاسألوني اليوم عن لوعة الهوى
لأهل الهوى في الدمع والسهد لذة
يدي لك رهن بالمحبة والرضا
أصفيتك الود مضطرا ومختارا
حال يقل لمثلها
بيني وبين الفضل كل تنوفة
حروب النوى والقرب فيك سجال
أطع مولاك تظفر بالنجاح
بذكرك يبلغ الأرب
يا مكثرا قاله وقيله
يا شارب الراح في أوقات غفلته
يا مدمن الخمر غير آل
بدت لجفونك العبر
يا خلي العين والأذن
زمان بتطهير القلوب موكل
فكأنه شجر بدا لكنها
إني رأيت العز مستودعا
كم في الدياجير من ذخر وفائدة
أأسلوا وقد غبت عن ناظري
من عذل العقرب في لسعها
لا تجزعن لمكروه تصاب به
لا تضق ذرعا بخطب نازل
ألا قل للثقاة السامعين
إلى الله فلترفع أكف الخلائق
حمل الفؤاد على الهوى وتحملا
بذكرك نستكفي وإياك نعبد
سبحان من في كل شيء شاهد
لا بد للمعتل من آسي
ذهب الكرام فلا كريم يرتجي
لا زال في عفو وعافية
يا نائم الطرف عن سهد وعن أرق
عجبا للناس تاهوا
لله أيامي بكم
صدروا وسحر لحاظهم يغريني
خير الأخلاء من حلتك صحبته
لاح وقد فاح بهار النهار
يا أبا الفضل وابنه وأخاه
أهلا بغرتك السعيده
إذا أملت من مولاك قربا
عجبا لمن ترك الحقيقة جانبا
الطعن والضرب منسوبان للعرب
نعم الإله بشكره تتقيد
تأدب إذا ذكر المصطفى
أي نور كشف الله به
