1. Wine ruins your faith, so beware,
And leads to vice and sin.

2. Hell awaits now or later;
Pull away lest you fall in.

3. How many wealthy has it left poor,
How many poor made poorer yet.

4. What worse than this drunkard's brew
Did the wise ever try to forget?

5. You who reach out your hand toward the cup -
Whether selling or buying, that hand is paralyzed.

6. Offering cups on the carpet, or throwing them in the flames,
Two fires - but this one only shows

7. To the seeing, clear-sighted eye.
Purify your heart of the filth of its sin,

8. Or prepare for the greatest punishment.
You are unclean. No repentance,

9. Not seven oceans, can wash you clean.
What would you want with a deadly drink

10. That damages, and your Lord condemns?
You will face a reckoning, terrified,

11. Fearing punishment, in plain view of the Judge.
If you want security, then do not walk

12. The most treacherous road.
Would you sell your faith, misled, for a sip?

13. Shame on you, trader of faith.
What an accursed sip, so hateful,

14. That steals your faith before you know.
On Judgment Day you will regret, full of sorrow,

15. Nibbling your fingers in despair.
If you will not repent it, you are a joke

16. To beholders, mocked in every gathering.
Lose your reason and you will be an animal

17. In human skin - see for yourself!
I have advised you. If you accept my counsel

18. O living one, as though you never lived.
By God, no hearer understands the truth,

19. Wandering in evident misguidance.
Beware the punishment for drinking it,

20. And if you incline to repent, rejoice.
O Lord, we err in ignorance,

21. So pardon us, screen us, and forgive.
