1. Sins corrupt acts of obedience,
And the sin that corrupts obedience most is envy.

2. Do not secretly envy one who is blessed,
Indeed, the envious are distant from the Merciful.

3. Be content with your sustenance, for sustenance is preordained.
Whether spending wastefully or frugally, all have equal sustenance.

4. If you envy a man what is meant for him,
Then go, you have only sin and spite.

5. It is an abhorrent trait and reprehensible motives,
And an aim criticized by the tongue of Sacred Law.

6. You disliked a state that God willed its wealth,
So be content with what the One, the Single has decreed.
