1. In the name of God, let speech commence
And let he who intends attain what he desires

2. And who more deserving of that praise than Him
Whose bounties are formidable in amount

3. You sleep while death is the aim of fates
Yet your Lord watches over you, never sleeping

4. Your Master suffices you against misery and sorrow
In His gifts, you have the judge of your capacity

5. If He rewarded you justly for your deeds
Retribution would have come in place of favor

6. He guarantees your sustenance every day
Yet you refuse to cease accusation

7. You desire from people - if only I knew
Who is the Sustainer if people are miserly?

8. So who gives life to the worthless after death?
And who makes the clouds rain with His power?

9. Indeed your sins have blinded your vision
And this ignorant self has fooled you

10. You busy your eyes from comprehending wakefulness
While before you lie formidable horrors

11. You were independent in caring for your body
While beneath your ribs lies chronic disease

12. You are blamed for your absorption in disobedience
Yet no heart aches from blame

13. Darkness surrounds you, neither rising nor prayers
The night falls and neither fasting nor recitation

14. You prolonged suckling worldly delusions foolishly
And every suckling must eventually be weaned

15. So be warned of death - gray hair
Have entangled you in its fetters

16. People cry over sins - nothing but
Ask about your sins and smile

17. You are weary of acquiring ruins
So do not acquire much lest the ruins destroy you

18. You were miserly with what you collected - is it right
For the likes of you to prolong miserliness and the forbidden?

19. So gray hair of sins, shyness has become costly
The dawn broke and the darkness dispersed

20. To God is the destination - no stay
When the journey is hurried - no stay

21. Wake for gray hair has filled the temples
And after it, there is nothing left but the tomb

22. Your Lord has made annihilation incumbent upon you
To Him belongs absolute oneness and permanence

23. Contemplate the making of your Lord and you will find
Wondrous things beyond count or limit

24. He has blessings that elude thankfulness in speech
With a press atop their heads

25. And the greatest blessing is the imam
The ruler of the land - in his hand the reins

26. To his kingdom cling Arab and non-Arab
And Yemen and Syria await his rule

27. An unending cloud, an undeparting full moon
With his open hand comes desirable rain

28. And the light of his forehead is a pervading light
Behind his state comes supplication

29. He who aims arrows and guides steeds
What sound mind can deny his grace?

30. Doves have spoken of his happiness
So say to his enemy - shorten, shorten!

31. Or gain insight, for swords have been loosened
He has filled the lands with fear of you

32. A brave imam - behind him an intrepid army
With every sharp sword they entered fray

33. When battle sparked intensely for them
He listened to incitement secretly

34. And understood the jerk of reins
So seek refuge in his side - you will gain safety

35. If loyalty to him comes sincerely from you
Do not let arrogance take you - and know

36. That the skilled horseman rides the unruly steed
Take the initiative, again take initiative, take initiative

37. To visit the king's sanctuary
And do not confront the lion of august state

38. While you are the prey, followed by ostriches
Ignorance wishes from you what it wishes

39. But God refuses, as does the imam
You suffer utter exhaustion, then misery

40. While he has safety and peace
