والأرض قد ضربت بمرهف نهرها

حمد الإله واجب لذاته

جرينا على أهدى طريق ومنهاج
We raced on the straightest path and methodology
خليلي إن الهزل بالجد ينسخ
My friend, jesting turns serious into jest
أنتم لأبناء عبد الحق كلهم
You are the pride of Abd al-Haq's sons altogether
لأسمى الورى قدرا وأشمخهم علا
Of the highest rank and most sublime
الله أكبر في منار الجامع
God is Great in the minaret of the mosque
قال الوشاة وقد بدت في مفرقي للشيب
The slanderers said, as signs of old age
يا أكرم الناس بلا مين
O noblest of mankind without contempt
عداوة لا لكفك من قديم
An ancient enmity not for your hands
شهد الإله وأنت يا أرض اشهدي
God is my witness—and you, O earth, bear witness,
لا تعجبوا للمرء يجهل قدره
Don't wonder at a man who is ignorant of his own value
أرى المتعلمين عليك أعدى
I see the students as your enemies
قل للتي كادت برائق
Say to she who almost
وقالوا بعت نفسك لا بشيء
They said you sold yourself for nothing
كتمت مشيبي بالخضاب تعللا
I dyed my gray hair as an excuse
ضل المحبون إلا شاعرا غزلا
The lovers are lost except for a poet composing love poems
قلائده من ثغره وحديثه
His necklaces are from his mouth and his talk
يا سائلي عن اسم من تملكا
O you who ask about the name of the one who has taken possession
الحسن معذب كل قلب
Beauty afflicts all hearts
سلام على سبتة المغرب
Peace upon Morocco's Saturday
عقول الورى معقولة عن معارج
The minds of all creation are endowed with reason
مذهبي تقبيل خد مذهب
My doctrine is to kiss a rosy cheek
أتى الأمير أبو يعقوب أندلسا
The prince Abu Ya'qub came to al-Andalus
الشوق أسال أدمعي
Longing made my tears flow
أيا من حوى الأدب المنتقى
O you who embody refined literature,
يسيل ماء الندى من بين أنمله
The dew drops flow from his soft palms,
وقفت على مدح الرسول قصائدي
I stood praising the Messenger in my poems,
غرائب آيات النبي محمد
The wondrous signs of Prophet Muhammad
لا تصحبن سفيها ما حييت وكن
Do not associate with a fool as long as you live, but make
من قرأ الإكمال كان كاملا
Whoever read Al-Ikmal was perfect
رأيت الفتى لا يمل الأمل
I saw the young man who does not tire of hope,
سطور لها نور أجل منالشمس
Lines with a light more radiant than the sun
في الصدر من عهد الحبيب علائق
In my chest are bonds from the days of my beloved
تعالوا أحدثكم عن الليلة التي
Come let me tell you of the night when
ما رأينا كطالب للإجازه
We have not seen a student seeking ijazah
أنا أحوي ذخائر الأعلاق
I contain the treasures of the depths
أمالي إلى قبر الرسول مبلغ
My hopes to reach the Prophet's tomb I send
زبوربأخبار النبي محمد
My psalm contains news of the Prophet Muhammad
حبا الله خير العالمين محمدا
Allah loved Muhammad, the best of all beings
طوامير في مدح النبي تضمنت
Praises in eulogy of the Prophet contained
قال الوشاة وقد بدت في مفرقي
The gossipers said, when signs of old age appeared on my temples,
عمرت ربع الهوى بقلب لقوة
I have lived a quarter of passion with a heart
ولما أراد الله إنفاذ حكمه
When Allah willed to fulfill His decree
لآلى من سجع ودمع تكفلا
My tears and laments have undertaken
محمد المقصود بالمدح فافهم
Muhammad, the object of praise, understand,
إلى محمد أهديت غر ثنائي
To Muhammad I dedicate the pride of my praise
كواكب آيات النبي زواهر
The stars are signs of the Prophet, radiant jewels
وعشية سبق الصباح عشاءها
The morning preceded evening in its dusk,
تمنيت والإنسان يولع بالمنى
I wished, as people desire wishes,
برحمة ربي أرتجي حرمة القرب
With my Lord's mercy I hope for kinship's sanctity
أدمعك أم سمط وقلبك أم قرط
Are your tears a downpour or is your heart hardened?
يضع الناس صاحب الجاه فيهم
People place the one with high status among them
وأعدى عدو المرء أبناء جنسه
The worst foes of a man are the sons of his race,
صحبت في عمري ناسا أولي حسب
In my life, I have known people of high lineage,
كلاب المزابل آذينني
The dogs of the garbage heap pained me
ومدامة ذهب السنون بجسمها
The years have worn away her body
خالفني أشهب في مذهبي
A pale-skinned man disputes my creed
أعيذها من شر ما يتقى
I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak
زر غريبا بمغرب
Visit a stranger in the west
وبيداء قد كانت ضلوعا تكنني
The desert that once sheltered me
يا سيدي شاكركم مالك
My lord, I thank you
الصب إلى الجمال مائل
The youth inclines to beauty
أسر الفؤاد ودمع عيني أطلقا
My heart is captive and my teardrops unleashed
يا ندرة الدنيا لقد
O rarity of the world, you have
شوق كما رفعت نار على علم
Yearning rose like fire on a banner
ذوائب مجد الهاشميين كلهم
The glories of the Hashimites, all of them
صفات رسول لم تلف في شخص
The attributes of the Messenger were unmatched in a person
دوام نعيم النفس حب محمد
The bliss of the soul is in loving Muhammad
يا أيها المرزوق من
O you who are provided for,
انحل فانثنى ناسكا
He dissolved and bent, ascetic,
تملكتم عقلي وطرفي ومسمعي
You have possessed my mind, my gaze, and my hearing,
انظر إلى شمعة مصفرة الأدم
Behold a candle, yellowed skin
يا شد ما يلقى المحب من الهوى
How much the lover from passion must endure!
نبي الهدى أولى البرية أن تثنى
The prophet of guidance, the best of creation, deserves praise,
رب ربع وقفت فيه وعهد
I stood in a land and time
غريت بأمداح النبي محمد
I boasted with praises of Prophet Muhammad
من ليس يدري ما يريد
Who does not know what he wants
ظهرت بإملاء المعالي وحفظها
I have appeared with inspiration and preserving it
سموط لآل من مديح محمد
A praise of Muhammad from the descendants of Al
طاف الخيال بوادينا فمازارا
Imagination roamed our valleys, never resting,
فتح تبسمت الأكوان عنه فما
A conquest whose smile lit up the universe, have I seen
عجائب آيات النبي بدائع
The wonders of the Prophet's signs are marvels,
بنفسي رسول طاهر المجد طيب
With my own self as messenger, pure of glory, fragrant,
يقر بعيني أن أرى أرض طيبة
My eyes long to see a good land
جدير بأن يبكي على نفسه أسى
Worthy of shedding tears of sorrow for himself
ظلال الأماني والأمان تفيأت
The shadows of hopes and safety took shade
الروض يجر مطرفيه
The garden drags its skirts
يا أيها الشيخ الذي عمره
O you old man whose age
حمالة كرياض جاورت نهرا
Like meadows bordering a river
زواهر آيات حوينا بها العزا
The adornments of His signs we wore, with them we adorned our honor
لا بد من ميل إلى جهة فلا
One must lean towards a direction, so do not
مولى بأغيد
My beloved with supple limbs
أضحت أجنتها أتم فصيلة
Her breed became the most perfect stock
ثنيت إلى مدح الرسول أعنتي
I incline to praise the Messenger, my strength devoted
هلموا ففي مدح النبي تنزه
Come let us praise the Prophet to be purified
عدمت من قوى حسه
His strength and senses fail and wane
يا طالب الدنيا طلبت غرورا
O seeker of this world, you sought illusion
فؤادك بالأشواق نحو محمد
Your heart yearns for Muhammad
أشف الوجد ما أبكى العيونا
The tears that stream from my eyes reveal the grief inside
هو الحبيب قضى بالجور أم عدلا
Is he the beloved who wronged or was just?
جنان جناني مدح أحمد إنني
My gardens, my gardens, praise of Ahmed, verily I
هوى من غوى والغي أن تتبع الهوى
Passion leads to misguidance, and misguidance is to follow passion,
يا راحلين وبي من قربهم أمل
O you who left, though you were dear and near
لواء رسول الله ما دام يعتلي
The banner of Allah's Messenger as long as it flutters
نباهي الورى بالهاشمي محمد
I boast to mankind with the Hashimi Muhammad
أخطر على سبتة وانظر إلى
Pass by Ceuta and behold
عمرت ربع الهوى بقلب
I have filled a quarter of passion with a heart
يا من لشيخ قد أسن وقد عفا
O you whose sheikh has grown old and has been forgiven
تمام السرور بحور القصور
The fullest joy in the seas of palaces
فروع المعالي والأصول تجمعت
The branches and roots of nobility have gathered
وما أنا إلا عالم كل عالم
I am but a scholar, learned in every field
رموني في نار الهوى فخزنتها
They threw me into love's fire so I endured it
لو كنت في قعر بير
If you were at the bottom of a well
رجوم شياطين الهوى أدمع تجري
The tears of passion's devils flow
ثمان فروع المجد آل محمد
The eight branches of glory are the family of Muhammad
يمينا لقد كانت وفاة محمد
The death of Muhammad was sorrow
شمحت على قصد البعيد بظاهري
الحمد لله شكرا بان في البشر
بوصف حبيبي طرز الشعر ناظمه
استنصر الدين بكم فاقدموا
نزلت بكم طالبا رفدكم
عاب قوم كان ماذا
قلت لهم
ثم إن الوصل فيه محسن
وعلى الأعلام من شرقي سليمى
ما وقوفك بالركائب في الطلل
ألا يا نسيم الصبا خبري
حق وإن جعل النصيح يصيح
يا سائلي عن مولدي كي أذكره
شفاء أولي الإخلاص ذكر محمد
قصيد بما جاء الرسول مصدق
ضلوع بحب الهاشمي فوائض
طريق الهدى حب النبي وآله
رياض من الآداب تبسم عن زهر
ذكرت فذكر تجمع الفضل كله
دراري في وصف النبي محمد
حديث كما هب النسيم صباحا
شريعة خير الخلق خير شريعة
قريض بديع في ثناء محمد
ضروب المعالي في النبي تجمعت
صديت إلى وادي العقيقف أدمعي
محمد الممدوح بالشعر فاعلم
مررت عليها والخضاب لمائه
لباب سلالات النبيئين أحمد
يؤرقني بعوض في ليال
خطاي إلى قبر الرسول حثيثة
فحق لنا أن نعتني بولادة
وإن أجالس من ليس ذا كرم
أرى الكلاب بشتم الناس قد ظلمت
أبت همتي أن يراني امرؤ
أكرم الله مستجيزا أتانا
وناظر مقلة فيها بياض
فتحت عيون المها بالخضاب
أعدي علي هواه خصم جفونه
دنف تستر بالغرام طويلا
أهلا بك يا رشا
إني لأكنى عنه خيفة أن يشي
وإذا عشقت يكون ماذا هل له
