1. We raced on the straightest path and methodology
With the light of a lamp for prophecy raging

2. The moon split open, a sign of its Lord
So it became two halves in the gloomy darkness

3. Openly and on the Night Journey secrets appeared
So who was doomed that morning and who survived

4. His majesty appeared to every honored one
With Gabriel hastening to him on the Ascension

5. The masses of the inhabitants of the heavens came
To meet him in successive groups after groups

6. The assembly of the masters like Moses and Adam
Met him there with welcoming and delight

7. After that, the Quraysh spurned him coldly
And plotted to kill him, then plotted to expel him

8. The ignorance of a people who disputed their prophet
Argued with him, throwing them into torment and covering

9. They planted acts whose fruits their ignorance yielded
So the striking of bricks disturbed them, what turmoil!

10. May God reward on our behalf every good Muhammad did
For if not for him, we would not grasp the clearest methodology

11. The beauty of the lands, the pride of the whole wilderness
Opening the door of grace after distress

12. Abundant, the successor has never ceased to be
A savior for the distressed and rain for the needy

13. The untroubled brow of time has been crowned
With the full moon of his noble traits, so handsomely composed

14. Names assumed, by God's power, its composition
Upon a crown of honor—no less than a crown

15. Worthy of the praise of praisers is Muhammad
By God, I cannot restrain or limit my praises

16. I have set upon myself the duty of praising him
So I have purified my poems through them and their meters

17. I unveiled meanings in rhymes as though they were
Pearls unveiled at the beginnings of stellar signs

18. With eloquence in Arabic without peer
Beyond any damasks or brocades

19. I collected for you the best of accounts of him
And I integrated them into verse, the most wondrous integration

20. I pulled with them the rope of hope, perhaps
I will be blessed by seeing him, for I aspire to that
