1. With my own self as messenger, pure of glory, fragrant,
Passing from noble loins to loin,

2. Through him Allah cured the eyes of blindness,
Through him Allah brought hearts out from veils,

3. Bearing good tidings to those who answered the call, warning those who refused,
A lamp for those who saw, a guide for those groping,

4. The good news of Jesus when he was told of his name,
And he said "Watch for this Prophet of the Arabs."

5. With a sign that comes with light and wisdom,
And calls to the sweet flowing springs with wrath,

6. His affair appeared to the Persians at birth,
And Kisra awoke with his kingdom shattered in fear,

7. He wept when he saw the palace violated through him,
And no charm remained for him in East or West,

8. Houses of fire remained in ashes,
And a distant, deep sea turned to unpotable water,

9. Ships appeared after drought, so it rained on them,
Parched ground called out when they were sunk into fertile plains,

10. My son! The religion of the Prophet to whom
The kings of earth surrender in the throes of war, is near.

11. The moons of prophethood rose
In the face of his father as he worked with the soil.

12. Proofs that hide the sun at its rising
As the shooting stars were hidden in the sun,

13. I was sent to the Chosen One of the Family of Hashim
With bejewelled eulogies through which I hope for the Lord's mercy.

14. By the blossoms of meanings and their flowers
Which are light in the spheres and light in the twigs,

15. Marvels that dazzle every horizon and garden
When composed truly - and in truth when composed.

16. With what I revealed in praising him in its heavens,
And what I opened of it on its moist branch,

17. I cooled a heart whose ribs seethed,
And strengthened it with a pouring of tears on tears,

18. To a house, to lighten the sin I carried,
That my God might lighten my sin,

19. With my praise of him I interceded, then my love -
My hopes in my praise as intercessor, and in love.

20. Yes! In the Prophet's praise is a means,
And in loving him another - so these two suffice me.
