1. Yearning rose like fire on a banner
It took root between the paths of those who stray and follow guidance

2. I embrace it with my ribs though it burns them
Until it showed me as open ground, not to be fathomed

3. Who will buy me with good tidings and own me
A slave, when my eyes look to the sacred mosque

4. Leave my reins to my beloved and bear my fervor
For he who has no past has no steadfastness

5. O people of Medina, life was pleasant with you
You dwelled with the best messenger sent to mankind

6. You witnessed Paradise up close
In the place of revelation, verses and wisdom

7. We will leave the homelands desolate
And take the barren roads in the darkness

8. Our mounts heavily laden with burdens
To the station of Arab and non-Arab sins

9. Our sins, O Messenger of God, are many
And we have come to you, so pray for the sinner

10. A sin followed by regret over repeating it
For life passed in sin and regret

11. We cry but the world distracts us and makes us laugh
Had we been truthful in crying, we'd have bled tear for tear

12. O Egyptian caravan, go slowly, for a Maghrebi people will join you
Flesh pressed to flesh

13. Among them are slaves whom misery makes groan
They have not met their Master though He called them in the breeze

14. Seeking through Him an incomparable intercessor
In merit, glory, nobility and generosity

15. That beloved whose intercession is hoped for
Muhammad, the best of all God's creation

16. May the God of creation bless him as long as
A sun rises or fire is lifted on a banner
