1. When Allah willed to fulfill His decree
And the time came for the message to be folded

2. And the death of the Chosen One drew near after he had fulfilled
What his ears heard on the night of intimacy

3. After he had spread the religion through his Lord's call
And conveyed it even to the farthest extent

4. And exceeded sixty years, adding four more
Or three, as is best narrated

5. He was given the choice, so he hastily chose
To go to Allah; he did not choose belongings or dwelling

6. That is the essence of beautiful patience at his death
So no tears flow, nor any ribs are wet

7. All those with spirit wept when they saw his grave
Each one lamenting what he lamented

8. And all the faithful kept the pacts with the Chosen One
And all who clung to piety and the strongest cause

9. May Allah protect the guides of righteousness from all tribulation
For they do not gather except for righteousness and piety

10. The death of Allah's Messenger weakened their strength
The day after, a quarter of prophethood grew stronger

11. The farewell of Allah's Messenger left them with yearning
And they all wept aloud in lamentation

12. It is no wonder they wept for him, for
All the angels of the Merciful wept in anguish

13. Standing, pouring dust in mercy
Praying, though prayer had preceded beseeching

14. Yearning and loving the Messenger, the houris
In the gardens of refuge turned their eyes to him

15. A loyal, chosen one, whom Allah ennobled
Entrusting him with the Most High and elevating his stature

16. Faithful, living, his face a meadow of acceptance
Noble, merciful, his palm a stream of benefit

17. Bringing people close, kind to people, truly a mercy
Granting them favor and encircling them in pardon

18. Bestowing without being asked, only out of bounty
For through him they knew bounty and ease

19. The way to these people is love of Muhammad
Whoever is thirsty, draws water along with them

20. I wish, though I wish what I wish in vain
To come to the Prophet's grave, even crawling
