أسحر السحر في جفن الغزال
The most wondrous magic in the gazelle's eyelid
ما الزهر ما ما الرحمن ما الحلل

كبرت همّة عيني
My ambition has grown

I see Him in everything I have seen
قد تيممت بالصعيد زمانا
Roamed the desert sands for so long
عج ساحل الدير سل عنها الشماميسا
The coast of the monastery is perplexed, ask the sparrows about it
أتاني كترب لو يقر قسيمه
Roses are red, violets are blue
لقد ظهرت فلا تخفى على أحد
You appeared, so you cannot be hidden from anyone
قلها كلنا عالم بأن فينا
We all say that within us
صوادج البان ولنا هجرها بادي
The winds of separation blew, so we left it behind
ها قد بدا فوق البسيطة شمس من
Behold, above the meadow the sun has risen
طريقتنا قطع العلائق والخطو
Our method is cutting ties and steps
لما تبدت ديمية في ساعة
When Dima appeared at an hour
أصابني حب الهوى

أدر المدامة يا نديم إلى الصباح
Turn the cup, o cupbearer, to morning's dawn
يا راميا قلبا جريح
O you who pierces my wounded heart
ألا ليت شعري ما تقول عظائم الد

تقاطر مني الدمع حتى تجففت

سقتني بثغر الوصل قهوة حسنها

The days of relief through ventilation have rhymed
صار بفؤاد الوجد نحو ربوعها

فيا رب هذا الدهر قد جار حكمه

يا راميا قلبا جريح

بأسمائك العظمى دعوتك سيدي

بكيت منه عليه

سرى بفؤادي الوجد نحوك هائم
My passion raced towards you, lost in yearning,
رأيت المسك يعبق في رياض
I saw musk perfuming the gardens
فيا عجبا فرع يتمم أصله
What a wonder, a branch fulfilling its root
لا يستوي معرب فينا ودرّ حسن

سلام عليكم ما أمر فراقكم

وأعلم حقا أن بعدي عنكم
I know for certain that my distance from you
خود رمت عن قوس حاجبها سها

لاح لي برق بنجد فسبا

جلسنا لدى الأغصان في يوم أنسنا
We sat by the branches on a day we forgot
تنوّر همة الأحيا في الأحشا
The spirit of life shines in the deserts
لي في الغرام صبابة قد أسكرت
In love I have an intoxication that has made drunk
أرقني سقم النوى
The sickness of longing kept me awake
نسيم الصبا عنعن وسلسل بنافح الت
The morning breeze whispered and gleamed,
أعقل علومك كي تفوز بحفظها
Keep your knowledge reasonable so you may succeed in preserving it
بكعبة أنوار أنخت مطيتي
With a Kaaba of lights I saddled my steed
أسرت بدور أم بدت هالات
She captivated me with her eyes that appeared like crescents
حط الرحال بروض الأنس والأرب
Set down your saddles in the meadow of intimacy and pleasure
صلّ اللديغ أذاب قلب الراسخ
The serpent's sting melted the steadfast heart
رجوناك يا رحمن تكشف كربتي
We beg you, O Most Merciful, reveal my distress
كتبت لقاضي العشق سطرا من الهوى
I wrote a line of passion for the judge of love
لقد كنا رنقا قبل فتق وجودنا
We were so delicate before our being was ripped
بكت السماء شجوها لبعادكم
The sky wept its sorrows for your absence
أرجو الذي سجدت له الأكوان كر
