1. The fa granted the poor man freedom from his bonds,
The qaf the strength of his grandfather in his journey,
١. فاء الفقير فكاكه من أسره
والقاف قوّة جده في سيره
2. The ya finds annihilation in his Lord,
As his Master never leaves his innermost being,
٢. والياء يظفر بالفناء في ربه
إذ لايزال مولها في سره
3. The ra the repose of his soul in His nearness,
In union, though never seeing any of His works,
٣. والراء راحة روحه في قربها
عند الوصال وما رأت من بره
4. So he savors the taste of the mysteries' traits in,
The cage of forms, while secluded in his monastery,
٤. فتذوق طعم معالم الأسرار في
قفص الكثائف معلنا في ديره
5. There he glimpses the taste of beneficence with,
Unveiling, and extracts its treasure of goodness,
٥. وهناك يلمح طعم إحسان به
كشفا ويفتق كنزه عن خيره
6. There he suckles the breast of morals with which,
The ages have been imbued, and what lay in its folds,
٦. وهناك يرضع ثدي أخلاق بها
شرق الزمان وما طوى في زرّه
7. This is the poor man of the people, though he is of them,
If they see him, do not turn away from his bridge,
٧. هذا فقير القوم وهو مناهم
إن أبصروه فلا تمل عن جسره
8. For they are the people of generosity and sincerity,
Prostrating at the tables of His gratitude.
٨. فهم هم أهل المكارم والصفا
والعاكفون على موائد شكره
