إن عز من خير الأنام مزار
If visiting the tomb of the best of mankind brings glory
أهل الحديث طويلة أعمارهم
Those adhering to the prophetic tradition, long are their lives
ذكر جميل يوسف قد جدده
A beautiful mention, Joseph has renewed it
مسك الصلاة وأعطار السلام تلي
The fragrance of prayer and the perfume of greetings be upon you
زمن بكل مسرة وافاني
A time of every joy and pleasure,
سبيل ثنى صاحب الطابع
A path inclined to its master without restraint
يا إلاهي وأنت نعم اللجاء
O my God, You are the best refuge
بلينا بقوم خالفوا أوضح الحجج
We were afflicted by a people who opposed the clearest proofs
قسما بمكة والمشاعر كلها
Where have you gone
قد أنعم السيد القرشي بزورته
The Lord has blessed the Qurayshi with his visit
جاء الشيوخ مجليا ومصليا
The elders came, reciting and praying,
أَلذ سرورِ المرء ما لم يكن وعدا
The sweetest delight is what was not a promise
جبرت بإحسان لمذهب مالك
With kindness you mended the hearts broken and crushed, O best mender!
السعد تخبرنا شواهد حاله
The auspicious one, the signs of his condition inform us
يا من بتوزر ضاق واسع صدره
O you whose burden has narrowed his vast chest
حكم المنية ليس بالمردود
The decree of death cannot be reversed
أيلتذ بالدنيا منعم بال
I enjoyed the world deluded by its charm,
لقد كنت قدما قبل أن يكشف الغطا
Before the cover was lifted, you thought I was praising you, thanking you,
حقيق بأن أسمو على منكب الشعرى
My worth I prove when poetry's mantle don
أترى ممرضي درى بسقامي
Do my nurses know my illness?
كرم الزمان ولم يكن بكريم
The time was generous though not generous
خليلي هل لهجرك من ختام
My beloved, is there an end to your abandonment
حمدا لمن جعل الإجازة سلما
Praise be to the One who made vacation a ladder
وإني وإن رام العداء مهانتي
And if the enemy seeks to dishonor me
زمن التقى اغرب ما عليك ملام
The time of meeting is strange, do not blame me
هذا مآل الحي من كل الورى
This is the fate of the living, of all mankind
ما بين ناظر مقلتي وجفونها
Between my admiring eyes and her eyelids
كم رحيق معطر مختوم
How much sealed, fragrant nectar
حمدا لمكرمنا بأي عوارف
Praise to the one who honored us with noble traits
كأنك تهوى أن عذلك ينفع
As if you wish that your blame benefits me
ركبت متون اللج وهي لها رجف
I rode the waves of the sea, and it surged beneath me
لما ارتقى أرخته
When he ascended, I dated him
إذا بعث مطعوما بمطعوم آخر
If one intoxicant is mixed with another
صاح اركب العزم لا تخلد إلى اليأس
O companion, mount determination, do not surrender to despair
يا من يجيب دعوة المضطر
O You who answers the supplication of the distressed,
على قدر وافتك عالية القدر
According to your worth that reached high esteem
ألا قل لسكان وادي العقيق
O say to the people of Wadi Al-Aqeeq
أتيتك راجلا ووددت أني
I came to you on foot, and wished that I
حمدا لربي قبل ما أسأل
Praise be to my Lord before I ask
حكم المنية نافذ الأحكام
The decree of mortality stands firm in its judgments,
بلد الخلافة في الجمال فريد
The land of caliphate is unique in beauty
العز بالله للسلطان محمود
Glory to God for Sultan Mahmud
صحا القلب عن سلمى وأقصر باطله
My heart has recovered from Salma and I have cut off her falsehood
انظر له نورا بدا مشهودا
Behold, a light has dawned, bright, manifest
عليك أزكى سلام يا ضيا المقل
Upon you the most fragrant greeting, O illumination of glory
سكنت فسيحا في الجنان ظليلا
She settled comfortably in the gardens, shaded
انظر له تمت مغاني حسنه
Look, his perfect graces are completed
لساعد هذا الدهر أنت أصابع
You are the fingers that aid this age
إذا صائم يعروه فطر وقد أتى
If one who fasts strips naked, breaking the fast though it has come
ارحم جنيني يا رحمان سائله
Have mercy on my fetus, O Most Merciful, I implore You
أخو الزوجة الغرا الذي مات جده
The brother-in-law of the bride, a foolish young man, whose grandfather had died
قد نال ذلك أقوام مجلمدة
Some folks have gained great wealth and fame
كل إلى بطن الثرى رجعاه
All return to the belly of the earth,
ويشفي شفاء ثم فيه شفاء
A cure, then in it is a healing
على باب خير الخلق أوقفني قصدي
At the door of the best of creation, my purpose led me,
أهني بهذا الجامع الشامخ القدر
I congratulate this lofty university,
روحي فداك من الملم المعتري
My soul is yours to take, to free me of this vexing blight,
لطلاب ما تهوى النفوس مذاهب
For seekers, souls pursue diverse paths,
من يكن في ضنى ورام خلاصه
Whoever is in distress and seeks deliverance
هلموا بني أمي إلى جنة المأوى
Come my dear ones to the abode of paradise
حيهم إن جئتهم يا سعد حي
Greet them, O Sa'd, when you come to them, greet!
حمدا لمن بجزيل فضل أنعما
Praise be to Him who has bestowed abundant grace
الموت ليس بطالب متوان
Death is no sluggard in its onset,
أخا الفقه هل تهدي إلى الرشد سائلا
O brother jurist, do you guide to righteousness a questioner
يا سالكا في الأرض سبلا
O you who tread the earth's paths
ودية الجروح في النساء
The tenderness of women's wounds
يا مثال النعال تفديك نفسي
O example of shoes, my soul ransoms you
قدم لأهوال المآب متابا
Present yourself to the terrors of fate, repentant,
عجبت وهل ذا الدهر إلا عجائب
I wonder, is this life anything but wonders
كبرت عليهم إنها لكبيرة
It was too great a burden for them, erected high as a banner for distinction,
سلام طيب كالمسك صائك
A greeting as sweet as musk, your eloquence
إلى متى اللهو والأحباب قد رحلوا
How long will there be frivolity and dear friends who have departed,
كل الورى هدف لسهم حمام
All existence is the target of fate's arrow,
أيا من سبى الألباب لطف كلامه
O you whose eloquent words enchant minds,
كل امرئ ساع إليه منونه
Each man strives for what is dear to him,
ذا مورد جاد به
This is a generous spring
ما مات من يبقي الثنا ذكراه
The one whose legacy lives on never dies
أعيدها هيفا برب الفلق
I repeat it radiantly, by the Lord of dawn
أكرم بها من روضة لرقاد
Honor her with a garden for her rest
حليت جيدا عاطلا عن دره
You adorned an idle one beyond his worth
زمن السرور بما يسر كمسعف
The time of joy with what brings you joy as a helper
جميل ظنوني نحو عفوك ساقني
My beautiful thoughts lead me to hope for your pardon,
يا من إذا عض الزمان بنابه
O you, when time bites us with its fangs
شرف الورى يا دهر كيف هدمته
O Time! How you've destroyed the glory of the world,
لباس هنا الدنيا عليك جديد
The garb of worldliness here is new upon you,
كتاب كريم مشرق لمعاني
A radiant, noble book of meanings bright,
نفوس البرايا للمنايا مناهل
The souls of the wilderness are springs for death,
يا عارفا منه فاح عرف
يا رحيما بالمؤمنين إذا ما
هذا المنى فانعم بطيب وِصال
يهنيك يا ذا الطرس كف محمد
بشرى الورى بالأمن بعد مخاف
يا راكب الأخطار يبغي العلا
الحمد للّه وهو حسبي
ومجلس رائق من فضله سقيت
جاء الكتاب من الحبيب مبشرا
يا روضة الرضوان والنفحات
الموت كم فجع الورى وثباته
إلبك رسول الله جئت من البعد
لا بد من سكنى القبور فريدا
غزال خده غنى حسينا
هل الحي إلا هالك وابن هالك
حمدت إلاهي وهو مستوجب الحمد
تلقيت من أخباركم كل طرفة
زارت على خفر وحسن تردد
هذا ضريح يا له من مشهد
أيا عين آداب بها الظرف سائل
قلبي على هجر من أهواه في ألم
دلائل فضل الله فينا تترجم
أمحمد قد حزت كل فضيلة
أحاديث السرور لها انتشار
قليل فيك يا عبد الرحيم
يا جميل الوجه والحسن به
كأس الحمام المر دائر
عش ما تشاء لذاذة وحبورا
كحل بإثمد هذا الروض أجفانا
وعدت الذي يدعو وها أنا سيدي
شموس الهدى والحمد لله شارقة
جزاك إله العرش كل فضيلة
كفاني من زماني ما أقاسي
يا مفردا في الظرف والإيناس
حبكم قد شدني من عضدي
وأي صلاة للإمام فسادها
لتحقيق برهان الوجود مطالب
