1. I enjoyed the world deluded by its charm,
While death had arrows aimed at my heart's core.

2. I wondered, for days are but wondrous things,
A leaning on kinship and a mirage's trace.

3. Did it connect me except to one who cheats?
Did it nurture me except with sundered milk?

4. Beware listening to its vain trappings,
For it is, in truth, nothing but impossibilities.

5. Roll up your sleeves for the journey of one who strives,
With lofty aspirations for righteous deeds,

6. And advise a soul whom you have pastured
But never trusted the words of an adviser.

7. In the death of scholars lies the greatest admonition
For one whose faith is sparked within his mind,

8. Especially one whose knowledge continuously
Adorned the minds of students with gems,

9. Who spread it as if necklaces were diffusing
From such dissemination their very scents,

10. Was there anyone like Sheikh Ahmad, who proliferated
Throughout his days and nights knowledge for all souls?

11. Father of Abdallah Ardha, the Imam whom no one equals
In knowledge and divine support—who rivals him?

12. He went to benefit students, attacking
Like pouring rain clouds with drizzling showers,

13. Whenever a new face arrived, he met it
Unimpaired by age though time took its toll,

14. Until his knowledge illuminated the age
Like a star seen in the darkness of night's crescent.

15. For his loss, let a lesson weep—and every student—
With tears flowing on faces like necklaces undone.

16. In the like of him hearts despair, for he
Was their burnisher with his ever-renewing grace.

17. But he has gone where bliss is his destination,
For every person has a journey and decline.

18. Whoever was kin to the Prophet and his family
Is worthiest of attaining the best fate.

19. Whoever aided the pure religious way
Merits a place of God's supreme contentment.

20. Visit his grave and remember what the chronicler relates,
The Merciful watered his grave with pouring showers.
