1. A radiant, noble book of meanings bright,
With eloquence and wisdom's beauty dight,

2. From Tawzar's learned halls to us conveyed,
Where arts are cherished and true knowledge swayed,

3. Its grammar can the tongue of Ya'rub entice,
And drag long trains beyond Sahban's device,

4. In highest traits and acts unknown of old,
And every vessel doth its liquor tell,

5. As the two moons their radiance bright excell,
Although he dwelt in narrow fortune's scope,

6. And like to him the victim of mis-hope,
For the time's evil manners him distress,

7. And hopeless griefs his troubled bosom press,
To whom complain? they listen but in vain,

8. Who should the crooked course of things constrain,
They merit not your ear who never spent,

9. Their thought and tears when white or yellow blent,
Still to the tint of goodness constant prove,
