1. Praise be to the One who made vacation a ladder
Through which knowledge inherits lineage, reaching for the sky

2. And may His prayers and peace be upon
The best of creation, as a student and teacher

3. And upon his family and all his nation's pleasure
Especially its scholars, without doubt

4. This is the eminent Ibn Salama
Who reached the pinnacle of perfection

5. His soul yearned for gaining this authorization
When he saw it as a bounty for the eminent

6. So I, despite being not well-versed
In quenching the thirsty, came seeking it

7. But I hoped, emulating its men
Our fathers of knowledge – and whoever emulates, so be it

8. Thus I say I have authorized him, without
Hesitation, to narrate what is valid to relate

9. Advising, as I was advised, piety
As the Quran advised it clearly and wisely

10. Of all I know and narrate, not intending
Al-Ju’fi nor Muslim in specific

11. And with a prayer from him, with a present heart
I hope for an honorable ending, esteemed

12. By God, Ibrahim praises, guiding
