قدم لأهوال المآب متابا

1. Present yourself to the terrors of fate, repentant,
And act, for procrastination is not right for you.

١. قَدِّمَ لأهوال المآب مَتَابَا
واعمَلْ فما التسويف منك صوابا

2. For how long will you play, while life is but a flashing moment,
And the adviser admonishes you, yet you refuse?

٢. فإلى متى والعُمْرُ لَمْحَةُ بَارِقٍ
تلهو ويُوعِظُكَ النّصيحُ فتأبى

3. The grave is enough for you, if only you were guided by the preacher,
And death suffices, if only you knew affliction.

٣. القَبرُ حَسْبُكَ لَوْ تُوَفَّقُ وَاعِظاً
والموتُ يكفي لَوْ عَلِمْتَ مُصَابَا

4. And if you are heedless, then he is a tester for you,
Drawing his bow - how long will you put off answering the call of mortality?

٤. وإذا غفِلْتَ فإنّه لك مُوتِرٌ
قَوْساً متى تَدْعُ الفناءَ أجابا

5. His decree rules all creatures - oh, if only
He could prevent the passage of all with life!

٥. عمَّ الخَلاَئِقَ حُكمُهُ يَا لَيْتَهُ
لو كان يَمْنَعُ بالبقاء جنابا

6. Like the passage of Ahmed Al-Suheili, who
Wore garments of praise in the world.

٦. كجَنابِ أحمدٍ السُهَيْلِيِّ الذي
لَبِسَ المحامدَ في الورى أثوابا

7. He who, fearing the allure of his face,
Covered his beauty with the veil of modesty.

٧. وَهُوَ الذي إِذْ خافَ فتنةَ وجهِه
ضربَ الحياءَ على الجمال نِقابا

8. A being whose perfection the full moon wished to attain,
And whose wonders dazzled all minds.

٨. خَلْقٌ يَوَدّ البدرُ نَيْلَ تَمَامِهِ
وخَلاَئِقٌ تَسْبِي العقولَ عُجَابا

9. Mortality envied him in the world,
So it hurried to seize his youth.

٩. غَارَتْ من الدّنيا عليه مَنِيَّةٌ
شَوْقاً لهُ فاستعجَلَتْهُ شبابا

10. O Lord! The most wretched in need of meeting You
Has no other door to knock upon.

١٠. يا رَبِّ من وافاك أَحْوَجُ بائس
ولِغَيْرِ بَابِكَ لا يسوق رِكَابَا

11. So make for him a spring from the overflowing of Your pardon,
Sweeter to drink than the sweet Euphrates.

١١. فَاجْعَلْ له من فَيْضِ عَفْوِك مَوْرِداً
أشْهى من العَذْب الفُرَاتِ شرابا

12. And accept the words of one who called upon You as a chronicler.
Grant him the highest rewards in the most spacious paradise.

١٢. واقْبَلْ مقالةَ من دعاك مُؤَرِّخا
نَوِّلْهُ في أعلى الفسيح ثوابا
