أترى يثنيه عن قسوته

خدع الخدود يلوح تحت صفائها
The cheeks' guile shines under their clarity
يا بأبي من وصلا
O my father who has connected
ومضعف الطرف حياني بمضعفة
With eyes languid through passion's ecstasy
أسنى الممالك ما أطلت منارها
You adorned the kingdoms with your minarets as long as you erected them,
أهتوف بان في سرار الوادي
I wander crazily in the valleys' secrets
فدتك القلوب بألبابها
The hearts have ransomed you with their intellects,
لله ليلتنا إذ صاحباي بها
Our night is for God when my companions in it
يا نحاة الزموا الشكك
O grammarians, insist on doubt
لعلائك التأييد والتأميل
May your angels grant you support and favor
يجل عن التشبيه في الحسن وجهه
His face surpasses all similes of beauty,
اليوم نور جيب الدجن مزرور
Today the light of the fold's bosom is visited
أرق من الماء لولا الشعاع
More delicate than water, if not for the radiance -
يا عفيف الدين الذي يده صرف
O virtuous man whose hand is bound,
الدهر مارضته بالجود والباس
Time has not marred his generosity and dignity
ودمشق في دمشق رجال سلم
In Damascus are men of peace
من ركب البدر في صدر الرديني
Who mounted the full moon in the chest of the gazelle
أيا ملك النحو والحاء من
O king of grammar, the haa from its articulation
وصاحب لا أمل الدهر صحبته
A friend whom I do not hope companionship with forever
أقوى الضلال وأقفرت عرصاته
The darkness of misguidance grew dense, and its paths lay barren,
أنكرت مقلته سفك دمي
His eyelids denied shedding my blood
هذي المساعي قياسا أيها الناهي
O you who forbid these efforts - measure them!
ويلي من المعرض الغضبان إذ نقل
Woe to me from the angry one who turned away
فدتك الملوك وأيامها
Kings have ransomed you, and their days,
إن يمتر الشكاك فيك فإنك
If the skeptic doubts you, you are the Mahdi
ما برقت بيضك في غمامها
Your whiteness did not flash in its clouds
جنى وتجنى والفؤاد يطيعه
He reaps and enjoys the fruits, while his heart obeys him.
غدا الدين باسمك سامي العلم
Tomorrow, in your name, the faith became lofty
ملك كسا الإسلام من ذبه
A king who clothed Islam with his stabbing
ملك ما أذل بالفتح أرضا
A king never conquered a land,
عقل الحق ألسن المدعينا
Truth has silenced the tongues of the pretenders
سقاني العسجدية ذو عذار
The languid one made me drink pure wine
صفات مجدك لفظ جل معناه
The attributes of Your glory, their meanings are sublime
أصغى لهيثمة الواشي فقال سلا
He listened to Haytham's longing and said, "Lies
هو الجد بز التمام البدورا
He is the full moon at its brightest time
هيهات يعصم من أردت حذار
Alas! Who can protect whom you decide to take
يا حائزا غاي كل فضل
O you who have attained every virtue
الدهر أنت ودارك الدنيا ومن
Time is your abode, and this world your home,
تطبب برأي الصبي والمره
Take the advice of the youth and the woman
هو قاض كما تقول ولكن
He is a judge, as you say, but he bears
سقاها وروى من النيربين
He watered it and quenched its thirst
يا شمس لا كسف ولا تكدار
O sun, no eclipse or gloominess,
عذبوني بهجركم عذبوني
You torment me with your abandonment, you torment me
وما يوم الفرنجة منك فذ
The day of the Franks was not easy for you,
عتبت على قط ابن منير
I reproached the cat of Ibn Munir's son,
لاح لنا عاطلا فصيغ له
No moment's vacant for us, so fashion it
مظفر العزم ممدود الرواق على
His determination is reinforced, extending its porticoes
لي سيد بعض اسمه جنة
I have a master, part of whose name is Heaven
يا من أتانا سرقه
O you who came to us as a thief
أحلى الهوى ما تحله التهم
The sweetest love is what suspicions spice,
هي الخيل خير عتاد الكريم
The horses, the best equipment of the generous,
أيا صنو مائدة لأكرم مطعم
O table full of the most generous food,
ويا غصنا يؤرقني
O branch that troubles me
ترنح معطف الزوراء لما
The cloak of deception whined when
عطفوه فتمادى ولها
They inclined towards him, so he persisted, obsessed
أيا ملكا ألقى على الشرك كلكلا
O king who cast chains upon polytheism,
إلى المرتضى حث المطي فإنه
Urge on your mount to Al-Murtaza, for he
وذات شجو أسالت
With intense yearning she shed
عذبت طرفي بالسهر
You tormented my eyes with wakefulness
أخليفة الله الذي ضمنت له
O Caliph of Allah, whom the eloquent orators guaranteed
ما فوق شأوك في العلا مزداد
Your glory in the heights still grows
محدث تحدث أمراضنا
A speaker who speaks of our illnesses
كأن خديه ديناران قد وزنا
Her cheeks are like two gold coins precisely weighed,
عزت سيوفك فالعراق عراقها
Your swords are mighty, so Iraq is mighty,
لام عذار بدا
No more excuses could avail,
ألف الصدود وحين أسرف أسعفا
He endured estrangement and when he was excessive, he was forgiving.
بأبي شادن توثقت بالأيمان
By my father steadfastly I trusted in
عاتبته فاستطالا
I reproached him, so he was aloof,
أيا حسنها من روضة ضاع نشرها
Oh, her beauty, like a garden whose blossoms are scattered,
رنا وفي طرفه احمرار
My companion's eye was moist and red
عدمت دهرا ولدت فيه
I missed an era in which I was born
أبدا تنكب عن ضلال سادرا
Never have you strayed from the right path
بعماد الدين أضحت عروة الدين
With Imād al-Dīn the pillar of religion became
وجئت بأحمد فملأت حمدا
You brought Ahmad, so you filled with praise
هنيت روزي فذاك صومك
Your rose-like face, that is your fast while
لا نؤدي لأنعم الله شكرا
We do not give thanks to God for His blessings
أين مني الصبر عن وجهك أين
Where is my patience from your face, where
خنس الثعالب حين زمجر مصحر
The foxes cowered when the lion roared,
يا بدر لا أفل ولا محاق
O full moon, you do not set or disappear,
قالوا التحى وانكسفت شمسه
They said he has become frail, and his sun has set,
نذرك بالغوطتين قد ضمنت
You swore by the two curls that guaranteed
أرحها فهي أزلام المعالي
Leave her be, for she is but the leash of glory
حي الديار على علياء جيرون

By my life, were it not for the remnant of Abd al-Wahid al-Hanbali
لقد أوطأت دين الله عزا
You have trodden on the religion of God with might,
بأبي من صد عني وصدف
أنا حزب والدهر والناس حزب
فإن عظيمات الأمور منوطة
أخلى فصد عن الحميم وما اختلى
أيا خير الملوك أبا وجدا
بجدك أصحب الجد الحزون
لائمي قد سددت باب التعزي
لملكك ما نشاء من الدوام
إن كنت لست معي فالذكر منك معي
لا وحبيك لا عبدتك سرا
قف قليلا لأسألك
فنائي فيك أعذب من بقائي
يا محيي العدل ويا منشره
أيا ملك الدنيا الحلاحل والذي
محمود المربي على أسلافه
رغيفه من ذرة
رأينا الملوك وقد ساجلوك
ورد الكتاب فداه أسود ناظر
قلت لقوم كووا بنارهم
في ذرى ملك هو الدهر
يا غريب الحسن ما أغناك
بنور الدين روض كل محل
فداك من صام ومن أفطرا
جعل القطيعة سلما لعتابه
إذا غضب الأنام وأنت راض
من زار قبري فليكن موقنا
يا سمي المرمي في ظلمة الجبب
لنواعيرها على الماء ألحان
أبوك أب لو كان للناس كلهم
ما الملك إلا ما حواه نجاده
للسبعة النيرات عن شرفي
ترى أراك وأنت في دست العلى
أبدا تباشر وجه غزوك ضاحكا
المجد ما ادرعت ثراك هضابه
تولت الأعياد لا زلت لها
أيا سيفا أعز الدين منه
قل لابن يحيى مقال غير غو
أما الرعايا فإنها رشفت
كسا الحرمين لبسة عبد شمس
