1. Kings have ransomed you, and their days,
And the covenants of demolishing you have lasted,
١. فَدَتْكَ الملوكُ وأيّامُهَا
ودام لنقضِكَ إِبْرامُهَا
2. And for your eyes their feet have slipped,
And for your might their courage has slipped.
٢. وزَلَّتْ لعَيْنِك أَقدامُهَا
وزال لبطشك إِقدامُهَا
3. And if hearts had not surrendered to you,
Their passion would not have made them Muslim.
٣. ولو لم تُسَلَّم إليك القلوبُ
هواها لما صحّ إسلامُهَا
4. O reviver of justice when it was forgotten,
Of the bereft lands and their orphans.
٤. أيا محييَ العدل لمّا نَعاهُ
أَيامَى البَرايا وَأَيتامهَا
5. And savior of the religion from a nation,
That erased the idols of its shrines.
٥. ومستنقِذَ الدين من أُمَّةٍ
أزال المحاريبَ أصنامُهَا
6. You approached it, as lions, white and black,
And brown follow you, their bold leader.
٦. دَلِفْتَ لها تقتفيك الأُسُودُ
والبيضُ والسُّمرُ آجامُهَا
7. You harvested its peninsula with swords,
Until its evening hated its morning.
٧. جزرتَ جزيرتها بالسُّيُو
فِ حتى تشاءَمَها شامُهَا
8. And the vulnerable parts of its sides,
Became the cheapest to buy, when you wished.
٨. وصارت عوارِيُّ أكنافه
مَتى شِئتَ أَرخص مُسْتامهَا
