1. By my life, were it not for the remnant of Abd al-Wahid al-Hanbali
His malady would have overwhelmed me
١. وَلَعَمْري لَولا بِقِيَّة عبد ال
واحد الحَنبلِيِّ أُعْضِلُ داؤُه
2. They brought back kindness withered, its blossom faded and its radiance dimmed
A people nurtured on nobility, pure is the water of their manliness
٢. هُم أَعادوا المَعروفَ غَضّاً وَقَد صو
وَح مُخْضَرَّه وغاضَ بهاؤُه
3. Each kindness they do is in return for kindness done them
And in dislike they are partners
٣. مَعْشَرٌ أُرْضِعُوا النَّباهةَ من عو
دٍ نُضَارُ ماءِ المروءةِ ماؤُه
4. Tongues that adorned the pulpits, from them
Every wrath perished, erased by destiny
٤. كُلُّ مَعروفِهم لِمَعروفهم طَلْق
وَهُم في مَكروهِهِ شُرَكاؤُه
5. The Glorious Book bears witness that an attribute
Whose reciters he has preserved
٥. أَلْسُنٌ تَوَّجَ المنابرَ منها
كلُّ عضْبٍ فلَّ القضاءَ مَضَاؤُه
6. You are its people, and whoever does not say my words
Has blinded his organs universally
٦. فالكتابُ العزيزُ يَشْهَدُ أنْ قد
سلمت خصلة لهُ قرّاؤُه
7. Jurisprudents of Islam, if the perplexity of its priests has worn you down
Then don their mantles, you pulpit orators!
٧. أَهله أَنتُم وَمَن لَم يَقُل قَو
لي عَمّمت عينهُ أَعضاؤُه
٨. فُقهاء الإِسلامِ إِنْ عَنَّ
لبس أحباره خُطَبَاؤُه
