بما لدى موقف التوديع قد كانا

ربع الغمام بربع ذاك المنزل
The clouds gathered around that abode,
ذنب إلى الدهر ما له شافع
A sin against fate with no intercessor,
عهد السرور وريعان الهوى النضر
The days of joy and blossoming passions,
طحا به في الحسان الغيد حيث طحا
He wandered in beauty where the bright banner waved,
ذكر العقيق فسال من أجفانه
The memory of al-Aqiq made tears flow from his eyelids,
يا ربع رامة مربع الآرام
O quarter of Ramah with squared tranquility
سقت عهود الديم
The ties of blood shed
أشمس بهاء بالهلال تنقب
A radiant sun veiled by the crescent
سلوا الركب عن صب بأعتابكم ملقى
Ask the caravans at your thresholds about a lover thrown down in anguish,
يا شيخ الإسلام الذي
O Sheikh of Islam to whom
مولاي أنجز ما وعدت لمخلص
My Lord, fulfill what you have promised to the loyal
علي مها اللوى في الحكم جارت
The sorrows have run their course in my love
ذكر المعاهد والدمن
He recalled the pact and the abode
مولاي يا قاضي العساكر
My Master, O Judge of the armies
في ذرى مولى الموالي
In the protection of the Master of masters
إلى حضرة الروح الأمين تحية
Greetings to the trustworthy soul,
إلى المسجد الأقصى من الحرم القدسي
From Al-Haram Al-Qudsi to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa
شهدت وقد شاهدت مغنى جماله
I bear witness, for I have witnessed the splendor of his beauty,
كفى به جائرا في الحكم ما عدلا
His tyranny in rule was enough, had he been just
مولاي يا بحر الندى
My master, O sea of splendor
أحبتنا مهلا بصب ملكتم
Our loved ones, be patient with an intoxicated heart
أبشروا حظنا نهض
Rejoice, our luck has risen
كتابي يسعى قد أتاك على العين
My book has come to you, carried on the eyes
رعى الله أياما على أجرع الحمى
God tended for some days the most delicate coals

Peace like the blossoming of meadows with a smile's radiance,
نهج حق سلكتم أي نهج
What path of truth have you taken, what path
أتت تنثني كالغصن والغصن يابس
She came swaying like a bough, while the bough was withered,
ألمم بساعة يلبغا مهما انبرت
Cherish the hours as they pass by, no matter how
ألا هل لظلم لا يطاق دفاع
Alas! Is there no defense against unbearable injustice?
جادت عزالي النوب
The storms of misfortune have wandered
وفت إذ لوت بالوعد يوم لوى الرمل
When she promised with beauty on a day of twisted sands,
باقان باقان لا ألمت
Bāqān, O Bāqān, you suffered no harm
بدر السماء أقر بالأمس
The moon in the sky told last night
نوالك فيه يا أقصى المرام
Your friendship is, O most noble of hopes,
أقبل كالبدر طلعة وسنا
He came like the full moon rising, of perfect stature, straight as a rod,
كثرت تقبيل ثغر
I kissed a lip repeatedly,
لم أنسه لما تبدى مقبلا
I did not forget him when he appeared approaching,
في وجهه وثغره لمن يرى
In his face and mouth for whoever looks
سقى معهدا من إيلياء هتون
A refuge drew water from Elya's springs
علامة الروم قاضي العسكرين بها
The sage of Rome, the judge of armies by it
لام على لام عارضيه
Blame me for my desiring glances,
ضئيلة جسم إن أكن فلقد ثوت
Though slight in build, my heart has borne
أيها المولى تلفت للشآم
O Master, turn your attention to Damascus
لبني التاج ركن مجد خطير
For the sons of the crown, an important pillar of glory
لما بدا بعارض
When he appeared with his cheek
نظرته عن حدق المهاة فأسأرت

The youth and playfulness are gone, the days of the rebec are past
قد أذكرت من عهود الصب ما سلفا
I am reminded of the days of youth now past,
داعي الصبوح دعا إلى الصهباء
The morning caller called to the empty wilderness,
شكت صفحة المحراب لما أتيته
The prayer niche complained when I came to it,
إذا مرضت نفسي فأنتم أساتها
When my soul falls ill, you are its healers,
مولاي يا رب اليراعة
My Lord, O Lord of courage
ربع الغمام على مرابع فاس
Upon the rectangles of Fez the clouds' quarters,
بدا في سماء الحسن خال بوجهه
A beauty mark appeared in the sky of beauty
يا ليلة أذكرتني
O night that brought back to my mind
أمن رسم دار يشجيك غربه
From the abode whose western walls brought you grief when you departed,
طالعاه نقب الغوير وريعه
ألمم إذا هم غزاك بيلبغا
سماع يا أي هذا الفاضل النطس
سفينة الحب في بحر الغرام رست
لم أنسه إذ رمى عن قوس حاجبه
خف الله ما لي وحب الكواعب
شام برق الشام بالروم جزوعا
يحن على بعد المزار وإن شطا
قسما بصبح جبين بدر باهر
مولاي شرفت الربوع وطال ما
وافت فأرجت الأرجاء والأفقا
قد غازل النسرين لحظ النرجس
لله يوم مر بالنيرب
مولاي يا قاضي القضاة ومن
هاجتك ورقاء النغم
شرعت دون الشرع سمر الرماح
جوانحنا شوقا إليكم جوانح
