1. When my soul falls ill, you are its healers,
And when I'm thirsty one day, you are its Euphrates.
١. إِذا مَرِضَت نَفسي فَأَنتُم أُساتها
وَإِن ظَمئت يَوماً فَأَنتُم فُراتُها
2. From you comes the affection whose fame has spread,
And the caravan talks of it, chanting its verses.
٢. لَها مِنكُمُ الودّ الَّذي سارَ ذِكرَهُ
وَحَدَّث عَنهُ الرَكب تَحدُو حُداتها
3. No rumor embellished by a gang
That tells it about me at dawn, wandering.
٣. فَما خَبَرٌ قَد زَخرَفَتهُ عِصابَةٌ
تَقوّله عَنّي الغَداةَ غواتُها
4. They want me to forget my love for you through their ignorance,
But alas, how can souls forget what gives them life?
٤. يَرومون أَن أَسلُو هَواكُم بِجَهلِهم
وَهَيهات أَن تَسلُو النُفوسَ حَياتُها
5. If people convey a crime about me,
They and the Imam of truth have the right to rebuke me.
٥. لَئِن نَقَل الأَقوامُ عَنّي جِنايَةً
لَهُم وَالإِمامِ الحَقِّ حَقّاً جناتُها
6. No one insults a person except a bearer
Of snakes' words full of their poisons.
٦. وَما شَتَمَ الإِنسانَ إِلّا مُبلِّغٌ
أَفاعيَ قَولٍ ظَلَّ فيها رقاتُها
7. When news comes suddenly from a sinner,
It becomes clear to him, so the soul fortifies itself.
٧. إِذا نَبأٌ مِن فاسِقٍ جاءَ بَغتَةً
تَبيَّن لَهُ فَالنَفسُ زينٌ تقاتُها
8. After my loyalty, do I wake up today an opponent?
What a horrifying idea that confused its guides!
٨. أَبَعدَ وَلائي أُصبِحُ اليَوم ناصِبا
فَيا خُطَّةً قَد حارَ فيها هُداتُها
9. These are only the ravings of a slanderer
Whose evils and people's outcasts are my enemies.
٩. وَما هَذِهِ إِلّا أُفيكَة مصطحٍ
وَشى وَشِرار الناسُ عِندي وُشاتها
10. They conveyed about me what I never understood,
And the problem with news is its narrators.
١٠. هُمُ نَقَلوا عَنّي الَّذي لَم أَفُه بِهِ
وَما آفَة الأَخبار إِلّا رُواتُها
