1. My Master, O Judge of the armies
O You who made my tongue grateful
١. مَولايَ يا قاضي العَساكر
يا مِن لِساني نُعماه شاكر
2. O All-Knowing, transcending any equal
And any inclination or viewpoint
٢. يا عالِماً جَلّ عَن شَبيهٍ
وَعَن مَيلٍ وَعَن مُناظِر
3. O Most generous of hands
That narrate to me gifts and bounties
٣. وَفائِض الجود مِن أَياد
تَروي حَديثي عَطا وَجابِر
4. The allure of grace at all times
So generosity and palm thrive
٤. مفتنة الفَيض كُلَّ وَقت
فَالفَضلُ عامر وَالكَفُّ عامِر
5. God is pleased with a people
You have guided and commanded them
٥. اللَهُ راضٍ عَلى أُناسٍ
وَلَّيتَهُم ناهِياً وَآمِر
6. Thus religion is now comforting
And law has become thriving and flourishing
٦. فَالدّينُ أَمسى قَريرَ عَينٍ
وَالشَرعُ أَضحى ثَناكَ ناشِر
7. You have walked its path with the guidance of a sheikh
An Imam of truth, supporter of the faith
٧. قَد سِرتَ فيهِ بِهديِ شَيخٍ
إِمامٍ حَقٍّ لِلدينِ ناصِر
8. And I walked in my robe of confidence
Dragging the tail of modesty, veiling
٨. وَرحتُ في بُردَتي ثِقاةٍ
تَجُرُّ ذَيلَ العَفافِ ساتِر
9. Neither is the sea frothing, nor the moon shining
Nor the rain pouring, nor the lion roaring
٩. ما البَحرٌ زاخِرٌ وَالبَدرُ باهِر
وَالغَيثُ ماطرٌ وَاللَيثُ خادِر
10. When vying in glory, conversing in vigil
Multiplying in number, differing in aims
١٠. إِذا تَفاخَر إِذا تَسامَر
إِذا تَكاثَر إِذا تَنافَر
11. My Master, O destination of wishes
And Kaaba of superiority and landmarks
١١. مَولايَ يا قِبلَةَ الأَماني
وَكَعبَةَ الفَضل وَالمَآثِر
12. Whoever possesses glory cannot be named
If the vanguishers challenge him
١٢. وَمَن لَهُ المَجدُ لا يُسامى
إِذا تَحدّى لَهُ مَفاخِر
13. The open vista is beautifully adorned
Like the blooms of gardens bursting forth
١٣. وَالمَنظَر الطَلق راقَ حُسناً
يُزهى كَزاهي الرِياض ناضِر
14. And the sweet utterance refined in diction
Its meaning precise to every beholder
١٤. وَالمَنطِق العَذب رَقَّ لَفظاً
وَدَقَّ مَعنىً لَكُلِّ ناظِر
15. The pure lineage that adorned you
With its celestial strings of pearls
١٥. وَالنَسَبُ الطهر قَلَّدتهُ
عُقودُها الأَنجُمُ الزَواهِر
16. You inherited from forefathers, an exalted ancestry
Their chronicles found in books
١٦. وَرِثتَ قِدماً عُلا جُدودٍ
حَديثُهُم جاءَ في الدَفاتِر
17. They established greatness, led the way
With spear points and sharp swords
١٧. شادُوا المَعالي سادُوا المَوالي
بِالسُمرِ طَعناً وَبِالبَواتِر
18. Of every generous and valiant tribe
The brilliant brow blossomed radiant
١٨. مِن كُلِّ قَرمٍ وَمِن كُلِّ شَهمٍ
أَغَرَّ زاهي الجَبين زاهِر
19. The nearest to you, though of high rank
Polestar of the early ones, succor of the late comers
١٩. أَدناهُم مِنكَ وَهوَ غال
قُطبُ الأَوائِل غَوثُ الأَواخِر
20. My Lord endowed him with gardens of immortality
Watered by the clear Salsabeel
٢٠. حَباه رَبّي جِنان خُلدٍ
يُسقى بِها السَلسَبيلَ طاهِر
21. Through him, a scholar and God-conscious man
Your secrets manifest to him
٢١. بِحَقِّهِ عالِماً تَقِيّاً
وَسِرُّ نَجواه فيكَ ظاهِر
22. Unless you show kindness to an estranged one
In Rome, who has become a resident
٢٢. إلّا تَعَطفت نَحوَ صَبٍّ
يَصبُّ غَيثَ الدُموع ماطِر
23. Time betrayed him and wronged him unjustly
And separated him from the study circle he kept to
٢٣. فارَقَ بِالشامِ خَيرَ دارٍ
وَخَيرَ جارٍ وَالربعُ عامِر
24. Show him kindness, for in it
Is a place for favor, and you are Able
٢٤. ماجِنَةُ الخُلدِ تَصطَفيها
سِوى رِياضٍ بِها نَواضِر
25. And allow him to revisit branches of knowledge
At leisure, like the shy, reddening moon
٢٥. وَلَيسَ ذاتُ العِمادِ إِلّا
مَغنى حِماها إِن كُنتَ خابِر
26. Listening, O You whose tongue each speaker
Has praised, scattering his eulogies
٢٦. غَدَت عَلَيها حَوامِل المُز
نِ في ثَراها يَضعنَ باكِر
27. I have hoped for your perfect beneficence
Kept my hopes in you thriving
٢٧. وَلا خَلا المَهدُ مِن رُباها
فيهِ جَنينُ النَباتِ صاغِر
28. I do not fear him drowning
And my luck finds him prosperous
٢٨. تَحنو عَلَيهِ بَناتُ فَخرٍ
تُرضِعَهُ كَي يَشُبَّ سافِر
29. He passed like the blowing wind
Splitting the sea of deliverance speeding away
٢٩. فَكَم مَقيلٍ بِها ظَليلٌ
وَكَم خَليل تَرَكتُ هاجِر
30. And came laden, worries dispelled
With treasures and gems
٣٠. وَكَم مَغانٍ فيها غَوانٍ
مِن كُلِّ رُودٍ قَيد النَواظِر
31. I sent you from them a threaded necklace
Dazzling the minds with its brilliance
٣١. فارقتُها وَالفِراقُ مُرٌّ
كَم شَقَّ لِلصَبّ مِن مرآئِر
32. And I will gift you others
Meteors of pearls, with ornaments
٣٢. قالَت وَقَد زُمَّتِ المَطايا
وَالدَمعُ هامٍ في الخَدِّ هامِر
33. So people will say, astonished
You are no poet, but a sorcerer
٣٣. إِن كُنتَ تَبغي العُلا فَبادِر
حِمى جَوادٍ عَطاهُ وَافِر
34. And here are robes that will stir memories
Of Bosra's land, no tired dwellers
٣٤. فَرُحتُ أُنضي الرِكابَ نَضّاً
لا أَعرف الغَمضَ في الدِياجِر
35. Syrian in upbringing, from the generous
Arabic in origin and lineage
٣٥. أَجوبُ عَرضَ الفَلاةِ جَوباً
بِكُلِّ نِهدٍ أَقَبّ ضامِر
36. If the distinguished poet Mihyar al-Shami
Let his sweet lightning roam from his land
٣٦. يَمور مَورَ الظَليم لَيلاً
يَخوضُ بَحرَ السَراب غامِر
37. And al-Hajiri the literary youth were to forget
The lightning of protection and Hajir
٣٧. يَجري مَعَ الريحِ ثُمّ تَكبو
حَسرى وَيَمضي لِلغاي حاسِر
38. Take them, their splendor appears like the moon
The coyness of a hoopoe, the gaze of a beholder
٣٨. جَبينُهُ البَدرُ مِنهُ يَبدو
وَالنَجمُ مِن غُرَّتَيهِ غائِر
39. A doe's neck, a fawn's cheek
While the eyes are relaxed, tranquil
٣٩. فَما هِلالُ السَماءِ إِلّا
نَعلاً رَمَتهُ مِنهُ الحَوافِر
40. You are suited for her, O noble one
And the dowry is binding, and you are skilled
٤٠. وَلا الدَراري سِوى عُقودٍ
أَمسى لَها مِن حُلاه ناثِر
41. This is the promise of the generous, a debt
While procrastination is disgraceful for the great
٤١. وَلا نِطاق الجَوزاءِ إِلّا
ما قَلَّد الجِيد مِنهُ فاخِر
42. Accept an invocation and return praise
Fragrant as musk, bestowed upon you
٤٢. ما زالَ يَرمي بِهِ المَرامي
وَيَهجُرُ الوِردَ في الهَواجِر
43. And live forever happily
While no lightning flashed or bird sang
٤٣. حَتّى أَتى بِهِ حِمىً كَريمٌ
بُحورُ نَعمائِهِ زَواخِر
٤٤. صَدرَ الأَهالي بَدرَ المَعالي
ذُخر المَوالي فَخرُ المَفاخِر
٤٥. مَولاي عَطفاً عَلى غَريبٍ
بِالرومِ أَمسى وَلَيسَ زائِر
٤٦. أَخُنتُ عَلَيهِ صُروف دَهرٍ
وُقيتَ ظُلماً عَلَيهِ جائِر
٤٧. وَفَرّقت مِنهُ شَملَ دَرسٍ
كانَ عَليهِ قِدماً يُثابِر
٤٨. عَطفاً عَلَيهِ فَإِنّ فيهِ
مَحَلَّ صُنعٍ وَأَنتَ قادِر
٤٩. وَأَحبي مِنهُ دُروسَ عِلمٍ
بِراحَةٍ كَالحَياء هامِر
٥٠. سَماعُ يا مَن لِسانُ كُلٍّ
بِكُلِّ مَدحٍ ثَناه ناثِر
٥١. في يمِّ إِحسانِكَ المُرَجّى
أَجريتَ فَلَكَ الرَجاءِ سائِر
٥٢. وَلَستُ أَخشى عَلَيهِ غَرقاً
وَرَأى سَعدِي لَهُ مُسامِر
٥٣. فَمَرَّ كَالريحِ في هُبوب
يَشُقُّ بِحرَ النَجاةِ ماخِر
٥٤. وَعادَ مَشحون سَيبك الغَم
رِ بِاللآلي وَبِالجَواهِر
٥٥. بَعثتُ مِنها إِلَيكَ عِقداً
مُنظَّماً لِلعُقولِ باهِر
٥٦. وَسَوفَ أُهدي إِلَيكَ أُخرى
شهبُ الدَراري لَها ضَرائِر
٥٧. حَتّى يَقولَ الأَنام طُرّاً
ما أَنتَ شاعر بَل أَنتَ ساحِر
٥٨. وَهاكَ بِكزاً تَهيجُ ذِكرى
لِأَرض بُصرى لا شِعبَ عامِر
٥٩. شَآمِيّةَ النَشأ مِن كِرامٍ
طائيّةُ الأَصل وَالأَواصِر
٦٠. لَو أَن مِهيارَ شام بَرقاً
مِن ثَغرِها العَذب ظَلَّ حائِر
٦١. وَالحاجِري الأَديب صَبا
أَنسَته بَرقَ الحِما وَحاجِر
٦٢. خُذها تُجَلّى كَالبَدر تُجلى
هَيفاءَ قَدٍّ وَطفاءَ ناظِر
٦٣. رُود رداحٍ غَرثى وِشاح
وَالطَرفُ مِنها سَلِمتَ فاتِر
٦٤. وَأَنتَ كُفؤٌ لَها كَريم
وَالمَهرُ شَرطٌ وَأَنتَ ماهِر
٦٥. هَذا وَوَعدُ الكَريمِ دَينٌ
وَالمطلُ شَينٌ مِنَ الأَكابِر
٦٦. وَاِغنَم دُعاءً وَاِردد ثَناء
عَلَيكَ مَنّي كَالمِسكِ عاطِر
٦٧. وَاِسلم مَدى الدَهر في سُرور
ما لاحَ بَرقٌ وَناحَ طائِر
