1. O quarter of Ramah with squared tranquility
Whose features time’s lessons have traced

2. No glance’s edge falls upon you submissively
Except my soul with peace is glazed

3. Is there a stop in A’rass with which I heal
The agonies of yearning for its dweller?

4. A quarter wherein I let flow my tears’ seal
And lingered in fervent longing ever

5. Of the camp’s lodging naught remains but
Ruins under time’s rule it camouflages

6. A perspective by the home’s twist which reveals
As the dove’s neck contorted images

And three neighbors who near it resided

8. Of bright faces like blameless doves
Many a one have I over its loss chided

9. With ribs burning from ardor thereof
Thronging to the litters, heroes lie prostrate

10. After lengthy standing, humbly bent
They drank from pleasure’s cups till drunken states

11. Felled them without a joyous event
Ruins wherein I stood, lamenting their prime,

12. My tears poured like rain without refrain
And it fancied, as I sang in its platforms’ clime,

13. Days of youth are gone which won’t remain
O my reminder of days of my youth vigor

14. When I recall you, memories hail their vigor
And I cloaked you in the garb of youth and its bloom

15. A splendid cloak, pleasing the onlooker
You were friend to each enamored soul

16. Infatuated who longed for you and all passion’s toll
To each beautiful-eyed gazelle, like a brother you were I vow

17. For their glances hearts with arrows would impale

18. A thrush who drank the water of youth days
And became like a meadow’s flower fresh always

19. A full moon in the night of poetry though daylight prevails
In it the sun folded its wings of darkness in endless ways

20. She said as tears like strung pearls she scattered freely
On her cheek in pearl necklace strung seamlessly

21. And the camel litters for departure were laden loftily
As the hand of fate held their reins assertively

22. Would that He who created fate made pebbles verily
Replace my joints and bones in their fleetly

23. I answered her when I heard her say thereby
As tears from the fear of parting did fly

24. “Do not grieve for what fate has cast, for perhaps thereby
Does travel render a meeting certifiedly”

25. And to my father Al-Suyuti’s side may you strife
To gain your hopes, most noble of beliefs

26. To the best scholar the land has occupied in this life
Truest to his pledges amidst its griefs

27. The best of men whose views were never obscure
When views were confusing and signs unsure

28. With his followers pursued is generosity for sure
And glory not by Edens or pyramids forlorn anymore

29. Scholar of guidance, sea of dew, my master righteous evermore
Excelling in his guidance those who guidance invoke therefore

30. He whose threshold the errant frequented timeless as before
Sanctum of comfort and pilgrimage we adore

31. But if to his followers you claim relation verily
From thereon you'll be safe from mortality

32. His determination the horizons confined steadfastly
And struck glory's dome loftier than the sky bodily

33. And this religion was well-protected by his keen sword indeed
An ever-young lion with claws that bleed

34. And he pioneered a surmounting legacy to succeed
Above which plateaus of sanctity can't impede

35. When the winds of frivolity blow, to him flees sanity
Seeking refuge so highly

36. clinging to judiciousness amiably
When the winds of caprice roar in vanity

37. Tied loincloth drawing morals’ trains becomingly
And religion not by pretentiousness or hypocrisy

38. Worldly hopes and greed entice him never unwittingly
Even if with its smiling lips it beckons temptingly

39. My master, pillar of guidance of probity
Whoever for the faith strives, most upright is he

40.
The hardships of time cannot make your abode expire

41. Indeed it is our fortress against days ire
And to your protective care traveled loftily

42. A beauty whose smile the full moon outrivals assuredly
She came to you from Damascus nobly
