1. The storms of misfortune have wandered
To the abode of one with no worries or sorrows

2. With lightning flashing brilliantly
Watering the land with heavy rains

3. An obstinate old tyrant
Whose nature is obstinate and ignorant

4. Nay, his ruins did not remain
Clouds of calamities poured down

5. The like of which destroyed the tribe of Aad
With the evil of frequent years

6. The winds blow them
From the furious heavens

7. Tempestuous, scattering dust
Tearing out palm trees by the roots

8. Followed by thunderbolts
Containing deadly sorrows

9. Preceded by deafening thunder
That makes the mountains tremble

10. Then flashing lightning
Casting sparks of flames

11. Followed by dazzling light
Where lurk deadly disasters

12. Capped with roaring thunder
Delivering it to destruction

13. Backed by the onslaught
Of piercing, slashing swords

14. Whenever it calls them
They crawl to it in the thickets

15. Like camels with no herder
Leading a drove of wild asses

16. The horses of death, bridled
Like meteors streaking

17. Bay, chestnut, gray and dappled
Blue, piebald, dark and blond

18. Each warrior carrying
A lion of the jungle, conqueror

19. Veiled, his face shining
With polished steel armor

20. Wrapped in white silk
Eager for plunder

21. Grasping a slim lance
Raised above the shoulder

22. Their coats of mail were made
By David the prophet

23. Their double chainmail like
The eyes of a wakeful leopard

24. White on their foreheads
Shining like planets

25. However fast they race
Swooping down from the sky

26. When they defeat
The army of death they are victorious

27. When they battle the troops
Of destiny, they do not falter

28. When they clash with the ranks
Of the foe, they rip open their flanks

29. For them the barrier of Gog
Is merely a family tie

30. They called them and swooped
As night let down its braids

31. Then charged, tearing
The skin of darkness

32. And turned their abodes
To ruins at dawn

33. With a deafening roar
That tears up the roots of disasters

34. Making their heights
As low as can be

35. Leaving the land
Level plain or hollow

36. Their nests abandoned
To ruin and decay

37. Leaving only a bare trunk
Of wooden poles

38. Its shadow stretching
In three directions

39. With no shade or comfort
Or warmth from fire

40. Curse the deceiver
Who rebuked me unjustly

41. It is he who stops me
In my ignorance from my goal

42. Whenever I asked him
For guidance he spurned me

43. In his folly he thought me
An ostrich trying to fly

44. Little did he know I am
A servant of the Exalted Lord

45. Saad, bright star, knowledgeable man
Whose views are like shooting stars

46. The decisive speaker when
The riding beasts stir

47. The piercing lance when
The frames of steeds quiver

48. A master whom a sacred covenant protects
Giving safety to seekers

49. Hearts yearn for him
Both non-Arab and Arab
