- أبا حكم أين عهد الوفاءO Abu Hakam, where is the pledge of faithfulness?
- أبا عمران قد خلفت قلبيAbu Imran, I have left my heart behind with you,
- أحب النبي المصطفى وابن عمهI love the chosen Prophet and his cousin,
- أخلاء هذا الزمان الخؤونThe close friends of this treacherous age—
- إذا بلغ المرء أرض الحجازIf a person reaches the land of the Hijaz,
- أراك من الحياة على اغترارI see you beguiled by life,
- أصبحت مثل الجنان في الصدرI have become like the heart in the breast;
- اطلت على افقك الزاهرOver your radiant horizon have appeared
- أفقيهنا المستن ديناً والذيO our jurist, who follows religion’s path, and whose
- أقول وآنست بالليل ناراI say, having glimpsed a fire in the night:
- أقول وقد حان الوداع وأسلمتI say, as farewell’s hour has come and surrendered are
- أقول وقد دعا للخير داعI say, as one who calls unto good has called,
- ألا رب عرض امرىء مسلمBehold, many a Muslim man's honor
- ألا هل نسيم للرصافي مبلغAh, is there a breeze to carry to al-Rusafi
- الآن قد أيقن ابن رشدNow Ibn Rushd has become certain
- الحمد لله على نصرهPraise be to God for the victory He granted
- الدين يشكو بليهReligion laments an affliction
- الناس مثل ظروف حشوها صبرPeople are like vessels filled with bitter aloe,
- إلى الله أشكو ما تكن الجوانحTo God I complain of what the ribs conceal.
- إلينا اقصدوا يا معشر الركب إنناCome to us, O company of riders, for we
- أما في الدهر معتبرIs there not a lesson in time?
- أنا للندامى نزهة المستمتعFor drinking companions, I am a pleasure-seeker's delight.

- أيها المستطيل بالبغي اقصرO you who exalt yourself through oppression, desist.
- بأبي رشاً سفكت دمي ألحاظهMay my father be ransom for a fawn whose glances shed my blood,
- بدت لي أعلام بيت الهدىThe landmarks of the House of Guidance appeared to me,
- بسبتة لي سكن في الثرىIn Ceuta, a loved one of mine lies beneath the earth,
- بشراي أبصرتك خير إمامWhat joy is mine! I have beheld you, best of imams,
- بلغت المنى وحللت الحرمYou have attained your wishes and alighted in the Sacred Precinct.
- بلغت أمير المؤنين مدى المنىYou have attained, Commander of the Faithful, the furthest bounds of hope,
- بنى الإسلام جدوا في الجهادO sons of Islam, strive earnestly in jihad,
- بيان المرء بالإكثار عيبA person's speech, when excessive, is a fault;
- تأن في الأمر لا تكن عجلاTake your time in every matter; do not be hasty.
- تنزه عن العوراء مهما سمعتهاRise above foul speech whenever you hear it,
- خلعت العذار بشيب العذارYou cast off the bridle as the hair on your cheeks grayed.
- خليفة الله أنت حقاًYou are truly God’s caliph.
- خليفة الله دم للدين تحرسهO caliph of God, live on, guarding the faith
- خليلي أبا بكر فهل ثم حيلةMy dear friend Abu Bakr, is there some remedy
- رأى الحزن ما عندي من الحزن والكربGrief saw my grief and sorrow, so it shuddered at my state, unable to come near.
- رب إن لم تؤتني سعةLord, if You do not grant me ample means,
- زيادة حسن الصوت في الخلق زينةThe added beauty of the voice is an adornment in creation;
- سقى الله باب الطاق صوب غمامةMay God water Bāb al-Ṭāq with a cloud’s downpour,
- سكان وادي العقيق شوقيO dwellers of Wadi al-Aqiq, my longing
- سلام كأزهار الربيع نضارةA greeting as fresh as the blossoms of spring,
- سيكون الذي قضيWhat has been decreed will come to pass,
- شهدنا صلاة العيد في ارض غربةWe witnessed Eid prayers in a foreign land
- صبرت على غدر الزمان وحقدهI endured the treachery of time and its malice,
- صحبت الزمان وقابلتهI befriended time and met it
- صلاح الدين انت له نظامSalah al-Din, you are its binding cord,
- صن العقل عن لحظة في هوىGuard the mind against a glance of desire;
- ضلت بأفعالها الشنيعهThrough its heinous deeds has strayed
- طال شوقي الى بقاع ثلاثI have long yearned for three places,
- طهر بماء التقى جنابكPurify your person with the water of piety.
- طول اغتراب وبرح شوقLong exile and the torment of longing—
- عجبت للمرء في دنياه تطمعهI marvel at man, whose worldly life makes him yearn
- علقته كالسيف راع بهاؤهI fell in love with him—like a sword, his splendor awed me;
- عليك بكتمان المصائب واصطبرConceal your misfortunes, and be patient
- عيد بما يهوى الإمام يعودA feast returns with all that the Imam desires,
- قالوا الحبيب شكا جعلت فداءهThey said, “The beloved complained—may I be his ransom—
- قد أحدث الناس أموراً فلاPeople have indeed introduced new practices, so do not
- قد ثبت الغي في العبادMisguidance has indeed taken root among humankind:
- قد ظهرت في عصرنا فرقةA sect has appeared in our age.
- قل إذا جئت مجلساHome is where the heart is
- قل للزنادق عنيSay to the heretics on my behalf
- قلم به الاقليم أصبح في حمىA pen through which the province has come under protection;
- لا تغترب عن وطنDo not live away from your homeland,
- لا وأعطاف الغصون الميسNo, by the curves of the swaying boughs,
- لا يستوي شرق البلاد وغربهاThe east of the lands and their west are not equal;
- لأشياع الفلاسفة اعتقادThe philosophers' followers hold a belief
- لصنائع المعروف فلتة غافلIndeed, deeds of kindness are a heedless person's misstep,
- لعل بشير الرضى والقبولPerhaps the herald of favor and acceptance
- لك الشكر شفعت بيض الأمانيMy thanks to you: you paired white hopes
- لم تلزم الرشد يابن رشدYou did not hold to right guidance, O Ibn Rushd,
- لو كنت تبصر منذ يوم قد ناىHad you seen, on a day long past,
- لي صديق خسرت فيه وداديI have a friend on whom I wasted my affection,
- لي نحو أرض المنى من شرق اندلسFrom eastern Andalusia toward the land of desire, I bear
- من الله فاسأل كل شيء تريدهAsk of God everything you desire,
- من كبرت عن قدره خطةWhoever holds an office above his worth,
- نفذ القضاء بأخذ كل مموهThe decree took effect, seizing every dissembler,
- هنيئاً لمن حج بيت الهدىBlessed is whoever has made pilgrimage to the House of Guidance
- وإني لأوثر من أَصطفيAnd indeed I favor those I choose,
- وصعدة لبست سربال مشتهرAnd a lance donned the robe of one renowned
- وكم فلتات للصنائع تتقىHow often are elaborate crafts to be avoided,
- ويوم تضوع الشمس حليا بحسنهAnd a day whose beauty makes the sun breathe forth jewels,
- يا أهل طيبة قلبيO people of Taybah, my heart
- يا خير خل فدته نفسيO best of friends, may my soul be his ransom;
- يا خير مولى دعاه عبدO best Master whom a servant has called upon,
- يا دمشق الغرب هاتيO Damascus of the West, that other one—
- يا رشأ حظى إبعادهO gazelle, my lot is for you to drive me away,
- يا زائرا لم يقض أن ألقاهO visitor, whom I was not destined to meet!
- يا من حواه الدين في عصرهO one whom faith embraced in his age
- يا مهدى الموز تبقىO giver of bananas, may you live on,
- يا وحشة الاسلام من فرقةHow forlorn Islam is because of a sect,
- يا وفود الله فزتم بالمنىO pilgrims of God, you have attained your wishes;
- يحسب الناس بأني متعبPeople think that I am weary
- يعز علينا أن يقصر بالعلاIt pains us that greatness should be shortchanged
- يقولون إن العين داعية الهوىThey say the eye is what summons love.
- ينيل المرء تبصرة وذكرىIt grants a person insight and a reminder
