لا صَبرَ والله لي عَلَيه
Long exile and the torment of longing—
Long estrangement and yearning heart
By God, I have no patience to bear it.
No patience, by God, have I for it

In Granada I’ve a beloved
Who has locked the pledge fast in his hands.
Who holds the pledge fast in his hand

So if you could see the dew of his two narcissi
If you could see my narcissus bending
Pouring over the roses of his cheeks,
To drink amidst his rose’s bowers

You’d see pearls atop ruby
Formed from his tears upon his cheeks.
From his tears above his cheeks
