من الله فاسأل كل شيء تريده

فما يملك الانسان نفعاً ولا ضرا

فما يملك الانسان نفعاً ولا ضرا

Ask of God everything you desire,

Ask God for all that you desire

for no human has power over benefit or harm.

For man controls neither benefit nor harm

ولا تتواضع للولاة فانهم

ولا تتواضع للولاة فانهم

من الكبر في حال تموج بهم سكرا

من الكبر في حال تموج بهم سكرا

And do not humble yourself before rulers, for they

are in a state that tosses them about, drunk with arrogance.

For in their power they are drunk with arrogance

وإياك ان ترضى بتقبيل راحة

وإياك ان ترضى بتقبيل راحة

فقد قيل فيها إنها السجدة الصغرى

فقد قيل فيها إنها السجدة الصغرى

And beware of consenting to kiss a palm,

And beware accepting to kiss a hand

for this has been called the lesser prostration.

For it is said to be the lesser prostration
