الناس مثل ظروف حشوها صَبِرُ

وفوق أفواهها شيء من العسل

People are like vessels filled with bitter aloe,

And over their mouths lies a little honey.

تغرُ ذائقها حتى إذا كشفت

له تبين ما تحويه من دخل

They beguile whoever tastes them, until, when laid open

Before him, the corruption they contain becomes clear.
