O dwellers of Wadi al-Aqiq, my longing
O people of Wadi Al-Aqeeq, my longing
for you has grown in separation.
For you has increased during my absence

أَهدَيتُمُوهاyou gifted it اليَّto me زَاداas sustenance
And a glance from you is all I desire—if only
Even just a glance from you would be
you would gift it to me as sustenance.
A gift I yearn for in my provisions
عَهدٌa time لناfor us عِندكمin your company حَميدٌpraiseworthy

A happy time was ours in your company;
We have a noble bond with you
oh, if only it returned with reunion!
If only it could be restored by reunion
صَادَقَbefriended فيهin it الكَرىsleep جُفونِيmy eyelids
وبَعدَكمand after your departure للجِفونِtoward the eyelids عَادَىbecame hostile
In it, sleep befriended my eyelids,
My eyes were truthful to it
but after your departure, it became their foe.
And after you left they became hostile
