بيان المرء بالإكثار عيبٌ

وعقبى الصمت أقرب للبيان

وعقبى الصمت أقرب للبيان

A person's speech, when excessive, is a fault;

A man's excess talk is a flaw,

and the outcome of silence is closer to eloquence.

And silence is most eloquent.

وما في الأرض إن فكرت شيء

وما في الأرض إن فكرت شيء

أحقّ بطول سجن من لسان

أحقّ بطول سجن من لسان

And there is nothing on earth, if you reflect,

If you think of something on this earth,

more deserving of long imprisonment than a tongue.

Nothing deserves a longer prison than the tongue.
