ما بكاء الكبير بالأطلال

The weeping of elders over ruins,

أتشفيك تيا أم تركت بدائكا

يا جارتي بيني فإنك طالقه

لا فشل في ولا سقاط

أأزمعت من آل ليلى ابتكارا

وإذا أتيت معتبا في دارها

إني وجدت أبا الخنساء خيرهم

أترحل من ليلى ولما تزود

Do you depart from Layla though you are not yet equipped,

ما تعيف اليوم في الطير الروح

بنو الشهر الحرام فلست منهم

أذن اليوم جيرتي بحفوف

لعمري لئن أمسى من الحي شاخصا

أجدك ودعت الصبى والولائدا

I find you bid the child farewell and become

وإذا أردت بأرض عكل نائلا

When you crave Ukla's land as your goal

إن محلا وإن مرتحلا

Whether settled or a wanderer

أتاني وعون الحوش بيني وبينكم

The band of the tribe came to my aid, between me and you,

ألم تغتمض عيناك ليلة أرمدا

Did you not shed tears when your eyes were inflamed one night,

لعمرك ما طول هذا الزمن

By your life, the length of this time

وقد أغلقت حلقات الشباب

The gatherings of youth are now closed,

ألا حي ميا إذ أجد بكورها

Alas! What a marvelous life whose mornings are renewed

نام الخلي وبت الليل مرتفقا

The night passed while I stayed awake

يلمن الفتى إن زلت النعل زلة

The young man is blamed if his slipper slips

تراهم غير أثباط بمذرعة

رحلت سمية غدوة أجمالها

ألا قل لتيا قبل مرتها اسلمي

يا قومنا إن تردوا النكازا

شاقتك من قتلة أطلالها

يا جارتي ما كنت جاره

أثوى وقصر ليلة ليزودا

قالت سمية من مدح

خالط القلب هموم وحزن

ألا من مبلغ عني حريثا

قالت سمية إذ رأت

أقصر فكل طالب سيمل

ألا قل لتياك ما بالها

أتصرم ريا أم تديم وصالها

لميثاء دار قد تعفت طلولها

كانت وصاة وحاجات لنا كفف

أعلقم قد صيرتني الأمور

ويها خثيم إنه يوم ذكر

متى تقرن أصم بحبل أعشى

ميثاء دار عفا رسمها

إن بني قميئة بن سعد

ألم تروا إرما وعادا

فداء لقوم قاتلوا بخفية

فدى لبني ذهل ابن شيبان ناقتي

من ديار بالهضب هضب القليب

ألم تنه نفسك عما بها

أوصلت صرم الحبل من
