- أبوك البر يهديك التحيهYour kindhearted father sends you his greeting,
- أتيتك يا إمام إليك أشكوI have come to you, O Imam, to complain to you
- إذا حلت ركابك أرض طهWhen your mounts alight in the land of Ta-Ha,
- إذا قعدت بك الأيام يوماIf one day the days hold you back,
- أفكر في ذنبي فأبكي تحسراI reflect on my sin and weep in remorse.
- الحب داء والوصال دواءLove is an illness, and union its cure.
- العز بالعلم لا جاه ولا مالHonor comes through knowledge, not rank or wealth.
- الفخر بالعلم لا بالجاه والمالThe pride is in knowledge, not in status and money,
- القلب بالحب مشغوف ومشغولThe heart is enthralled by love and wholly occupied.
- إلهي لك الشكر الجزيل مع الثناMy God, to You be abundant thanks, together with praise,
- إلى المولى الكريم بسطت كفىTo the generous Lord I extended my palm.
- إلى ساحة المختار شدوا مطيتيSaddle my mount for the precinct of the Chosen One,
- اليوم ضاع من الشبيبة مصطفىToday the youth have lost Mustafa.
- أم عبد العزيز ماتت وسارتAbd al-Aziz's mother has died and journeyed
- أنا عبدك الراجي وأنت المرتجىI am your hopeful servant, and you are the one hoped for.
- بروحى غزال في الفؤاد منازلهI would ransom with my soul a gazelle whose dwelling is my heart.
- بسطت بين يدى خير الورى عذريI laid my plea before the best of humankind,
- بك ألتجي في الحادثات وأرتجيIn you I seek refuge amid calamities, and I hope
- بكريمة الدارين زالت كربتيThrough the noble lady of both worlds, my distress vanished.
- ترقب اليسر بعد العسر والحرجAwait ease after hardship and distress.
- تهددني النوى آنا فآناSeparation threatens me time after time,
- تهلل وجه الشرع وافتر ثغرهThe face of sacred law beamed, and its mouth broke into a smile;
- جميع الناس قد حجوا وزارواAll the people have made the pilgrimage and visited,
- حاشى أضام ولى بالمصطفى نسبFar be it that I suffer injustice, when kinship binds me to the Chosen One.
- حمى الحسين عليه النور مسدولAl-Husayn's sanctuary is draped in light,
- خل الأنام وخذ خير الورى جاهاLeave humankind and choose the noblest of creation in rank.
- خلوا التواني ففجر المجد قد لاحاAbandon slackness: the dawn of glory has appeared.
- دع كل باب دون باب المصطفىLeave every door but the door of the Chosen One.
- ذنوبي ضاع منها صدق صبريMy sins have robbed me of true patience,
- رب إنى أطعت غي التصابىLord, I yielded to the folly of playing at youth,
- رب إني ظلمت نفسي ولكنLord, I have wronged myself, but
- رجال انكلترا تبت يداكمMen of England, may your hands perish,
- رحاب الشافعي الحبر الإمامThe ink of Imams, Rabah al-Shafi'i
- رحاب الشافعي ظل ظليلAl-Shafi‘i's precincts are a sheltering shade,
- رسول الله طرفى في سهادO Messenger of God, my eye is sleepless,
- رسول الله مشتاق وقلبيO Messenger of God, I yearn, and my heart
- سل عن فؤادي سلعا فهو مثواهAsk Sal' about my heart, for there it dwells.
- شربت كأسا لها الأرواح ترتاحI drank a cup in which souls find repose,
- شفائي من الداء العضال ومنجدىMy cure for incurable disease and my rescuer
- صبا قلبي إلى نجد وهاماMy heart yearned for Najd and wandered in love.
- ضاق الخناق وزاد الخرق واتسعاThe noose tightened, and the breach grew wider and wider;
- ظنى بعفوك عن ذنوبي أجملMy hope in Your pardon for my sins is the fairest,
- عاص أتاك يمد الكف مفتقراA sinner has come to You, stretching out his palm in need,
- علوم الطب قد زادت وضاحهThe sciences of medicine have grown in clarity,
- على أعتابكم ألقيت حمليAt your thresholds I laid down my burden.
- على باب الكريم وقفت أبكىAt the Generous One's door I stood weeping
- عن فضل مولانا الإمامOf the excellence of our master, the Imam,
- عواقب المرء في أخراه مجهولهA person's fate in the life to come is unknown,
- فضل الإمام أمام الكل مشهودThe Imam's excellence is witnessed before all.
- في الشافعي حبر الورىIn al-Shafi‘i, the great scholar of humankind,
- في صفحة الخد خط الشيب إنذارهOn the cheek's page, gray hair has inscribed its warning.
- قالت وقدر حبت بالركب أرجاءShe said, as pilgrims have arrived in droves
- قلبي إلى روضه المختار مشتاقMy heart longs for the Chosen One's garden;
- كل شخص قد يلتجى لكريمEvery person may seek refuge with one who is generous,
- كل عاص قد أنابEvery sinner has turned in repentance,
- لا أرهب الدهر في يسر وإعسارI do not fear Time, in ease or hardship;
- لذ بجاه المصطفى خير الأنامFor the sake of the Chosen One, the best of creation
- لك اللطف الخفي فكل حيYours is hidden kindness, so every living being
- للسيد الدردير قطب الدائرهThe master al-Dardir, pole of the circle, has
- للشرع سيف شديد الوقع بتارThe sacred Law has a sword, fierce in its stroke, keen to sever.
- للعلم أهل لهام الفضل تيجانLearning has its adepts, crowns upon the heads of excellence.
- للّه قوم بحفظ الدين قد قامواTo God belong a people who have risen to safeguard the faith;
- لولا النبي ولولا حب عترتهWere it not for the Prophet, and were it not for love of his family,
- لي بالتجائي للإمام الشافعيThrough my seeking refuge with Imam al-Shafi‘i, I have
- لي بالحبيب وآله استنجادI seek succor from the Beloved and his family;
- لي نحو طيبة أشواق تغالبنيMy longings for Taybah overwhelm me.
- ما بال قلبي بحب اللهو يشتغلWhy is my heart occupied with love of idle amusement,
- ما كل رزء مثل رزئك يا حسنNot every calamity is like the loss of you, Hasan:
- مدوا يد الجدوى إلى هذا البطلHold out a hand for bounty to this champion.
- مصر تيهى بالإمام الشافعيEgypt, glory in Imam al-Shafi‘i,
- من ها هنا بحر الشريعة قد جرىFrom this very place the sea of sacred law has flowed,
- نذر علي إذا وصلت لطيبةA vow binds me: when I reach Taybah,
- نور النبي على العوالم أسفراThe Prophet's light shone forth upon the worlds,
- نور الهدى خير الورىLight of guidance, best of creation,
- هذا الإمام الشافعي البحر الخضمThis is Imam al-Shafi‘i, the vast, deep sea.
- هذا الإمام الشافعي كنز الكرمThis Imam Al-Shafi'i, the treasure of generosity
- هذا الإمام عريض الجاه للجارThis imam with vast glory for the neighbor
- هذى رحاب الشافعي بحر الوفاThese are al-Shafi‘i’s precincts, the sea of fidelity,
- واجعل صلاتك بالتسليم دائمةAnd make your blessings, with greetings of peace, unceasing
- وسطت خير الورى في مدى أولادىYou interceded for the best of creation among my children
- وسطت خير الورى في هدى أولاديI made the best of humankind an intercessor for my children's guidance.
- ولما ضقت من مرضى وسقمىAnd when I grew distressed by my illness and sickness,
- يا أزمة انفرجي فالظلم قد زاداO crisis, ease, for oppression has increased.
- يا بن النبي وبضعة الزهراءO son of the Prophet and part of al-Zahra,
- يا بن عم النبي إن سقاميEnglish translation unavailable
- يا رب إني مذنبO Lord, I am a sinner,
- يا رسول الله هذاO Messenger of God, this is
- يا سادة العلم صبوا الدمع هتاناO masters of learning, pour out tears in torrents.
- يا سادة برحاب الحبر قد نزلواO masters who have alighted in the learned scholar's precincts,
- يا سيد الخلق من عرب ومن عجمO master of creation, Arab and non-Arab,
- يا سيد الرسل بل يا أكرم الخلقO master of the messengers—rather, O noblest of creation!
- يا شفيع الورى وغوث البراياO intercessor for humankind and succor of creation,
- يا شفيع الورى وغوث البرايا قلO Intercessor of creation and Relief of the wilderness
- يا طامي البحر منك الفضل والجودO overflowing sea, from you come bounty and generosity.
- يا غافر الذنب من جود ومن كرمO Forgiver of sin, out of bounty and generosity,
- يا مصر لا تقنطى فالنصر قد حاناO Egypt, do not despair, for victory's hour has come.
- يا من به ختم المولى رسالتهO you through whom the Lord sealed His message
- يا نبيا به الكمال استتماO Prophet of perfections complete
- يممت طيبة أرتجى منك النظرI made for Taybah, hoping for a glance from you.
