At the Generous One's door I stood weeping

over my sin and my grievous transgressions.

And my heart is downcast, and my tears are abundant,

like water from rain clouds, pouring in a steady stream.

Yet my good opinion of You has led

me to hope to attain my desire.

For that reason I stretched out my palm in brokenness,

and in humility, need, and reverence.

May You grant me, from Your overflowing bounty,

abundant pardon for my wicked transgression,

and open my breast through guidance, for my breast

    is bound to anguish through excessive willful blindness;

and pardon sins that have weighed me down

    and distanced me from the noble people;

and spread among humankind the fragrance of my renown,

    and grant me acceptance forever.

And do not cut off my hope in You, for I

am devoted to prayer and fasting.

And double my portion with wealth, so that I may become

rich through the lawful, with no need of the forbidden,

so that my envier perishes as my honor endures,

and his nose is rubbed in the dust before humankind.

My God, I shall not be wronged while You are my source of honor,

nor do I fear the rabble's misdeeds.

For You have accustomed me to honor and victory,

just as You have accustomed me to exalted rank.

How many blessings and favors You have lavished,

like the sea's waves or the clouds' downpour!

    for Your radiant, mighty blessings.

I spent my youth in abundant honor,

and all people testify to the respect accorded me.

Far be it that I should be wronged, when the hair of my head

has become, with the radiance of gray hair, like white thughām grass.

God is too exalted to show me anything but

enduring honor with a good end.

And may the best of creation, Taha, intercede for me—

the Messenger of God, on the day of the throng.

May God bless him for as long as there shine

the stars of night, with the purest salutations of peace.
