O Messenger of God, this is

my father, who has come to you with love.

    He hopes for your attention,

and a generous share of your bounty.

And likewise the company with him—

all of them hope for your approval.

So care for them with an outpouring of grace,

for indeed they have settled in your sanctuary.

    And may they return

    in joy from your gifts.

My master, they have journeyed in honor,

and my heart is in turmoil.

My master, I have no protector,

nor, surely, do they, save you.

My master, they have triumphed and triumphed,

since they beheld your loftiest glory.

And my tears are pouring forth,

for my desire is to see you.

O my beloved, O my beloved,

my longing to meet you has grown.

    So may I see you,

and may you be pleased—may you indeed!

How much passionate longing fills my heart,

and ardent passion in my love for you!

O you of greatest standing for all creation,

is there any release from my bonds?

My breast is constricted by my times,

so grant me some of your hospitality.

And my sins have weighed me down,

and they are the sign of ruin.

So care for me with generosity, as a kindness,

    and remove this and that.

So may God send blessings upon you,

as long as a weeper weeps from longing,

or a traveler journeys by night to the House,

    and my bonds come undone.
