شفائي من الداء العضال ومنجدى

من الضر والأسقام مدح محمد

My cure for incurable disease and my rescuer

from affliction and sickness is praise of Muhammad.

نبى براه الله من خير عنصر

وبرأه من كل شين ومفسد

A prophet whom God fashioned from the finest stock,

and freed from every blemish and corrupting influence.

وأرسله للخلق نورا ورحمة

فنلنا به أسباب عز وسؤدد

And He sent him to creation as a light and a mercy,

so through him we gained the means of might and eminence.

نبىء أتانا بالمكارم والهدى

ومزق شمس الشرك في كل معبد

A prophet who brought us noble virtues and guidance,

and tore apart the sun of polytheism in every place of worship.

وأرسله للخلق نورا ورحمة

فنلنا به أسباب وعز وسؤدد

And He sent him to creation as a light and a mercy,

so through him we gained means, might, and eminence.

نبى أتانا بالمكارم والهدى

ومزق شمس الشرك في كل معبد

A prophet who brought us noble virtues and guidance,

and tore apart the sun of polytheism in every place of worship.

نبىء به التوحيد قام عماده

ووطد ركن الدين بالقول واليد

A prophet through whom the pillar of God's oneness stood firm,

and who strengthened religion's pillar with word and hand.

سرى نوره في الخافقين فآمنت

ببعثته الرهبان من قبل مولد

His light spread through East and West, and so faith was professed

in his mission by monks before his birth.

وعطر أرجاء العوالم طيبه

فعم الورى في كل ناد وفدفد

And his fragrance perfumed the reaches of the worlds,

pervading humanity in every gathering-place and wilderness.

رؤوف رحيم بالأنام مكمل

كريم سخي الكف منبسط اليد

Compassionate and merciful toward humanity, perfected,

noble, generous of palm, open-handed.

شديد على الأعداء في الله بأسه

له شهيد الأبطال في كل مشهد

His might is fierce against enemies for God's sake;

the champions bear witness to it in every encounter.

له المعجزات الغر أشرق نورها

وأعظمها القرآن أعذب مورد

His are the radiant miracles whose light shone forth,

and the greatest is the Quran, the sweetest wellspring.

أتانا به والكون أسود حالك

فكان لكل الكون أعظم مرشد

He brought it to us when the universe was black, pitch-dark,

and it became the greatest guide for the whole universe.

معاشٌ وميعاد به فعلومه

من العالم الأعلى إلى خير سيد

In it are livelihood and the appointed meeting; its teachings come

from the highest realm to the finest master.

رسول أظلته الغمامة ضاحيا

وكلمه ضب بغير تردد

A messenger whom the cloud shaded in the open sun,

and a spiny-tailed lizard spoke to him without hesitation.

وليلة مسراه ومعراج جسمه

بها قد غدا الإسلام في عيش أرغد

And the night of his night journey and his bodily ascent—

through it Islam came to enjoy a more abundant life.

ففاز بتصديق النبي جحاجح

وبات أناس بين مرغ ومزبد

Great chiefs triumphed by believing the Prophet,

while some spent the night raging and foaming.

فتلك قلوب أشرقت شمس سعدها

وهذي قلوب في الجمود مجلمد

Those are hearts whose sun of good fortune shone;

and these are hearts, stone-hard in their rigidity.

له الشمس ردت واستجارت غزالة

وحن له جذع فبشر بالغد

For him the sun was brought back, and a gazelle sought refuge,

and a palm trunk yearned for him and received glad tidings of the morrow.

له درّت العجفا عداء وأصبحت

لبونا كما قد صح عن أم معبد

For him the emaciated ewe yielded milk repeatedly and became

a milk-giving ewe, as was reliably related by Umm Ma'bad.

به العين ردت واستنم جمالها

وما اكتحلت بعد الشفاء بإثمد

Through him the eye was restored, and its beauty reached its peak,

and after healing it was not lined with antimony.

وعين علي كرم الله وجهه

شفاها بتفل الريق من غير مرود

And Ali's eye—may God honor his face—

he healed with spittle, without a kohl-stick.

له الجمل العاني تكلم واشتكى

وشق له بدر لإرغام ملحد

To him the suffering camel spoke and complained,

and for him a full moon was split to humble an unbeliever.

وكم معجزات ضاق حصر نطاقها

عن العد قد تعزى لأفضل مسند

And how many miracles, whose scope is too vast

to count, are indeed traced to the finest transmitting authority!

أقرت بها الأعداء شرقا ومغربا

وقرّت بها عين أضاءت لمهتدي

Enemies acknowledged them in East and West,

and they gladdened an eye that shone for one rightly guided.

فيا خير من فوق البسيطة قد مشى

وفاق الورى في طيب أصل ومحتد

O best of all who have walked upon the earth,

and surpassed humanity in purity of origin and lineage,

إليك يدى بالإفتقار بسطتها

فجد بالعطايا إنني منك أجتدى

to you I stretched out my hand in need,

so give generously with gifts: I seek bounty from you.

فلى نسب في أهل بيتك ينتمى

وسعدى وجدى أن سميت بأحمد

For I have a lineage belonging to the people of your house,

and my good fortune and luck are that I was named Ahmad.

فكن لي من المكروه حصنا وواقيا

وجاها منيعا في الحياة وفي غد

So be for me a fortress and protector against harm,

and unassailable standing in life and on the morrow.

وكن لي بحج والزيارة ضامنا

لأحظى بفوز والصلاة بمسجد

And be my guarantor of Hajj and visitation,

that I may gain success and pray in a mosque.

وأصلى وفرعى كن لهم متوجها

وأهلى وأحبابي وإخوة مولدي

And turn toward my root and my branch,

and my family, my loved ones, and my brothers by birth.

فإنك حصن للجميع وموثل

وإنك للأبناء أرفع مسند

For you are a fortress and a refuge for all,

and you are the loftiest support for children.

فحقق رجائي نحو جاهك علّني

أفوز بحسن الحظ مع نجح مقصدي

Fulfill my hope in your standing, that perhaps I

may win good fortune and succeed in my aim.

عليك صلاة الله في كل لمحة

وآلك والأصحاب مع كل مقتدي

God's blessings be upon you at every instant,

and upon your family and companions, with every follower.
