جميع الناس قد حجوا وزاروا

ومالى قد نأى عني المزار

All the people have made the pilgrimage and visited,

Yet why has the place of visitation grown distant from me?

أعلل مهجتي عاما فعاما

وقلبي لا يقرّ له قرار

I soothe my soul, year after year,

But my heart finds no rest.

فإن تكن المعاصي أقعدتني

وأنأتني الكبائر والصغار

For if acts of disobedience have kept me from going,

And sins, great and small, have kept me far away,

فعفو الله أوسع من ذنوبي

ومنه يقال بالعفو العثار

Then God's pardon is vaster than my sins,

And through Him, stumbling is set right by pardon.

على أنى إذا أذنبت ذنبا

فما لي فيجنايته اختيار

Yet whenever I commit a sin,

I have no choice in committing it.

قضاء الله ليس له مردّ

ومالى من إرادته فرار

God's decree cannot be turned back,

And I have no escape from His will.

وما أنا في الوجود وفضل ربى

جزيل الفيض أبحره غزار

What am I in existence? My Lord's bounty

Pours forth abundantly; its seas are overflowing.

ورحمته لقد وسعت كثيرا

بفيض الفضل للجنات ساروا

His mercy has indeed embraced many

Who, through overflowing grace, have journeyed to the Gardens.

على أنى كذر في غبار

وأين الذر إن سكن الغبار

Yet I am like motes amid dust,

And where are the motes once the dust has settled?

إلهى قد ضعفت وضاع عمرى

وليل الشعر لاح به النهار

My God, I have grown weak, and my life has been squandered,

And daylight has dawned in the night of my hair.

وجانبني الشباب وما أتاني

على شيبي متاب أو قرار

Youth has forsaken me, yet there has come to me no

Repentance or steadfastness, despite my gray hair.

وما قدمت من عمل ينجى

إذا ما الناس يوم الحشر حاروا

I have sent ahead no deed that will save me

When people are bewildered on the Day of Gathering,

سوى التوحيد معتقدى وحبي

لطه من له المنن الكبار

Save faith in God's oneness—my creed—and my love

For Taha, whose favors are great.

فتلك بضاعتي من عهد وضعي

وما لبضاعتي أبدا بوار

That has been my stock-in-trade since my birth,

And my stock-in-trade will never come to ruin.

ولى بالمصطفى نسب شريف

به المجد المؤثل والفخار

I have a noble lineage through the Chosen One,

Through which come deep-rooted glory and pride.

ولكن يعتريني حين أتلو

فلا أنساب بينهم اصفرار

Yet, when I recite, I am overcome

By pallor: ‘Then there will be no kinship among them.’

فيا مولاي لا تفضح عيوبي

إذا ما الناس بالهادي استجاروا

So, O my Lord, do not expose my faults

When people seek refuge with the Guide.

وقدر لي بفضلك حج بيت

به طاف الملائك واستداروا

And decree for me, through Your bounty, pilgrimage to a House

Which the angels have circumambulated, circling round.

به تمحى عن العبد الخطايا

ويحلو فيه للعاصي اعتذار

There the servant's sins are erased,

And there a sinner's plea for pardon is sweet.

متى أحظى به وأطوف سبعا

وأرمل ساعيا ولي اقتدار

When shall I be favored with it, and circle it seven times,

And trot as I hasten, while I have the strength?

وأستشفى بزمزم من سقامى

وتروى غلتي منها جرار

And seek healing from my sickness in Zamzam,

And have jars of its water quench my burning thirst?

وتلبيتي على عرفات ينسى

بحسن دويها أهل ودار

And with my talbiyah on Arafat, forgotten are

Through its lovely resonance, family and home.

بمختلف اللغات الكل يدعو

وثوب الإنكسار لهم شعار

In diverse languages, all make their supplications,

And the robe of humility is their emblem.

وما أحلى التزاحم إذ أفاضوا

وللجمرات في البيد أشاروا

How sweet the thronging as they pour forth,

And gesture toward the jamrahs in the desert.

ويوم منى أجل الدهر عندى

سروراً عند ما ترمى الجمار

The day at Mina is, to me, the greatest of all days

In joy, when the pebbles are cast.

وإن طفنا وودعنا وسالت

بأعناق المطيّات القفار

And if we circle and bid farewell, and there stream

Past the riding camels' necks the desert wastes,

إلى خير البرية من قريش

فحسبى ذاك إن دنت الديار

Toward the best of creation, of Quraysh,

That will suffice me, if the abodes draw near.

هنالك تكمل الأفراح عندى

وتحلو لي الإقامة والجوار

There my joys become complete,

And staying and living nearby become sweet to me.

وألثم ترب أرض حل فيها

رسول الله والنفر الكبار

And I kiss the soil of a land where dwelt

God's Messenger and the great men.

وأرفع للسما طرفى ابتهالا

وللعبرات في الخد انحدار

And I lift my gaze to heaven in supplication,

While tears stream down my cheek.

وأطلب من رسول الله فضلا

شفاعته وقلبى مستطار

And I ask a favor of God's Messenger:

His intercession, while my heart is distraught.

هناك أحط أوزاري لديه

وتعلوني المهابة والوقار

There I lay down my burdens before him,

And awe and dignity envelop me.

رسول الله من ذنبي أجرني

فإن المستجير بكم يجار

Messenger of God, shield me from my sin,

For whoever seeks your protection is protected.

رسول الله أنت لنا شفيع

وعزك للورى جاه وجار

Messenger of God, you are our intercessor,

And your glory is mankind's honor and protector.

وجاهك في الورى جاه عليه

مدى الدهر المعول والمدار

Your standing among creation is a standing on which

Reliance rests and affairs revolve throughout time.

ونور علاك قد عم البرايا

وبدرك ليس يدركه سرار

The light of your loftiness has spread through all creation,

And your full moon is never overtaken by moonless darkness.

يبعثته جنود الشرك ولت

وأهل الكفر قد هلكوا وباروا

Through his mission, the armies of polytheism turned and fled,

And the people of unbelief perished and came to ruin.

وأيدهُ الإله بخير صحب

وأنصار على الأعدا أغاروا

God supported him with the finest companions

And Helpers who raided the enemies.

وللإسلام قد نصروا وآووا

ومنهم تم للدين انتصار

They championed Islam and gave shelter,

And through them the faith attained victory.

رسول الله حبك ملء قلبي

ومالي عن محبتك اصطبار

Messenger of God, love for you fills my heart,

And I cannot bear to turn away from loving you.

جعلت شعار حبك خير ثوب

وحب المصطفى نعم الشعار

I have made the emblem of love for you my finest robe,

And love for the Chosen One—what a fine emblem!

فحاشى أن أضام وأنت جاهى

وحاشى أن يدانيني افتقار

So far be it that I be wronged, while you are my support,

And far be it that want should draw near me.

عليك الله صلى ما تبّدت

نجوم الأفق أو طلع النهار

May God bless you as long as there appear

Stars on the horizon, or daylight dawns,

وآل البيت والأصحاب جمعا

وأتباع ومن حجوا وزاروا

And upon the Household and all the companions,

And the followers, and those who have made pilgrimage and visited.
