1. كل عاص قد أناب

    وعن التقصير تاب

    Every sinner has turned in repentance,

    And repented of negligence.

  2. وهداة الخلق نالوا

    بالهدى حسن المآب

    And the guides of humankind have attained

    Through guidance, a good final abode.

  3. وأراني في غرور

    مستمر وارتكاب

    Yet I see myself in delusion,

    Unceasing, and in wrongdoing.

  4. وذنوبي في ارتفاع

    وعيوبي في انتصاب

    And my sins are on the rise,

    And my faults stand tall.

  5. قدم المقبول خيرا

    وصنيعي كم يعاب

    The accepted one has offered good deeds,

    And how often my conduct is reproached!

  6. فالإم اللهو منى

    وسواد الفود شاب

    How long, then, shall I indulge in diversion,

    When the dark hair at my temples has turned gray?

  7. ولذيذ العمر ولى

    والصبا قد صار صاب

    And life's sweetness has passed,

    And youth has turned to bitter sap.

  8. وشموس الصفو غابت

    وتوارت بالحجاب

    And the suns of serenity have set,

    And hidden themselves behind the veil.

  9. هذه الدنيا أراها

    كل يوم في خراب

    This world—I see it

    In ruin every day.

  10. ومقام المرء فيها

    مثلما يبدو السحاب

    And a person's stay within it

    Is like the clouds as they appear.

  11. يا رفاقي من مجيري

    من ذنوبي والعقاب

    O my companions, who will protect me

    From my sins and punishment,

  12. يوم يؤتى بالبرايا

    في صعيد للحساب

    On the day all creatures are brought

    To an open plain for reckoning,

  13. يوم يلقى في شواظ

    من له حق العذاب

    The day into blazing flame is cast

    The one for whom punishment is due—

  14. غير خير الخلق طه

    المصطفى السامي الجناب

    Other than the best of creation, Ta-Ha,

    The Chosen One, exalted in station?

  15. ملجىء دوما وذخرى

    في الملمات الصعاب

    My constant refuge and my treasure

    In grievous calamities.

  16. يا حبيبي إن قلبى

    من عظيم الشوق ذاب

    O my beloved, indeed my heart

    Has melted from great longing.

  17. وجفوني في سهاد

    وفؤادي في الضطراب

    And my eyelids are sleepless,

    And my heart is in turmoil.

  18. أنت قصدي يا حبيبي

    أنت ملجا من أناب

    You are my aim, O my beloved;

    You are the refuge of whoever repents.

  19. عاده عودتنيها

    والرجا منك الإياب

    A habit you have accustomed me to,

    And my hope is for your return.

  20. فأنا المضنى ولكن

    رابنى طول الغياب

    For I am exhausted, yet

    The long absence has troubled me.

  21. وشواظ الشوق أمسى

    من فؤادي في التهاب

    And the flame of longing has become

    A blaze rising from my heart.

  22. إن أكن أذنبت فاصفح

    ومرادي أن أجاب

    If I have sinned, then pardon me,

    And my wish is to be answered,

  23. وأنال العفو فضلا

    منك مع فك الرقاب

    And to obtain pardon as a favor

    From you, along with the freeing of necks.

  24. فعليك الله صلى

    ما بدا بدرٌ وغاب

    So may God send blessings upon you,

    As long as a full moon appears and sets.
