Men of England, may your hands perish,

And may sorrow's massed clouds rain upon you.

You broke your covenants and did not keep faith,

And betrayed the one whose reins you had taken.

You prolonged the occupation in the land of Egypt,

Though dignity surrounds the royal throne,

And security has become firmly established,

Strong in its foundations, its supporting pillar raised high.

Your task, by God's grace, is complete,

And Egypt is now in the finest state of order.

So we do not know why, after this,

You have turned toward settling and staying.

So if you say, 'We are the country's guests,' we reply:

'A wretched guest indeed, who has bequeathed us weariness.'

And if you say, 'We have oversight,' we reply:

'The time of childhood and weaning has passed.'

And if you say, 'To spread knowledge,' we reply:

'Darkness has veiled the eye of your learning.'

And if you say, 'We served you,' we answer:

'Your service to us was a penalty.'

So depart with decency and leave us alone,

For this conduct of yours is blameworthy.

Otherwise, sandals upon the backs of your necks!

And far be it from us to say, 'Go in peace!'

And may the shame of disgrace overtake you all,

Then no excuse will avail, nor any remorse.

May God overthrow your rule and blind

Your powers of insight until the Day of Resurrection.
