أتغرب بين عيني واغتماضي

نطقت عن أشنب فيه خمر
It spoke of a jug wherein is wine,
قد وضع الكف على خده
He rested his palm against his cheek
وخرساء إلا في الربيع فإنها
Silent, except in spring when it is
يا ثوبه الأزرق الذي قد
Oh bluest robe that once did grace
وترى الأحرف في أسطارها
You see the letters in its lines
وتنعمت في خدود صباح
I delighted in the cheeks of a morning
يا حبذا الفلج المعسول ريقته
Oh Cheeks whose sweet flow
ولم يبق لي إلا جسيم كأنه
And naught remains for me but a body as though
خيال لمن حال عن عهده
An apparition for one who broke his vow
انظر غرائب للخيري ظاهرة
Look at the wonders of the benevolent one
أخذت بأنفاس الرياض فنشرها
You took the breaths of gardens and spread them
لا شكر عندي للحبيب الهاجر
I have no thanks for the absent beloved
وقفت على الدار الخلاء كأنني
I stood at the deserted home as if
وفي الورد غضا والأقاحي محاسن
The rosebuds tender, the narcissi fair
نسائلها هلا كفاك نحوله
I ask her, isn't your anguish for him enough?
يقود حنود الجو والعرش والثرى
He leads the hosts of air, the Throne, and earth
يولي ويعزل من يومه
He appoints and removes as he wills
مضت بفؤادي بين أحشائه النوى

خطافة سبحت الله

لما تهددني نصير بالنوى

خلوف من الريحان راقت كأنها
A branch of sweet basil, slender as if
وبكفه بادي النحول كأنه
With his thin hand like a youth complaining
وليلة لمة تبقى العيون
And a night of darkness remains, the
مبيح حمى الإشراك حتى كأنه
It welcomes the sharing of love until it seems
وأبلق من شرط الكمي لزينة
More excellent than the black streak of kohl for decoration
خليلي عيني في الدموع فعاينا
My beloved, my eyes are swimming in tears, so see
والسفن قد جللها قارها
The ships are clad in their armor
كست الأرض بساطا رائقا
It covered the earth with a delightful carpet
فوافوا بنا الزهراء في حال خلة
Come to me, my blossom, when alone,
بكت السحاب على الرياض فحسنت
The clouds wept over the gardens and adorned
نوء وغيث مسبل
Clouds and pouring rain,
إذا سقى الله روضة مطرا
When Allah waters a garden with rain
وما استلأموا حرزا ولكن لأمهم
They grasped no weapon and no sword they drew,
ترك الجسم يحاكي خصره
His body left off at his slender waist
ومحير اللحظات تحسبه لحي
And of perplexing moments you'd think it cheek
وليلة راقبت فيها الهوى
One night I spied upon the passion
فقدت دموعي يوسفا في حسنه
My tears lost Joseph in his beauty
سوسن كالسوالف البيض لاحت
Like white lilies, narcissus bloomed
يا خدود الحور في إخجالها
O cheeks of the fair maidens in their shyness
وما عجبي إلا من الفرس إنهم
I am amazed by none but the Persians, for they
عزمت على قتلي بغير تحرج
You are determined to kill me without hesitation
أذات الطوق في التغريد أشهى
The warbling of the necklace is sweeter
انظر إلى روض ياسمين
Look upon a garden of jasmine
قالوا اصطبر وهو شيء لست أعرفه
They said be patient, yet it's something I don't know
أخي حالي لفقدك عن جفوني
My brother, my state without you before my eyes
وكم ليلة قد جمعتنا وأدبرت
How many nights have brought us together and passed
ولما رأيت الشمس تأفل بالنوى
When I saw the sun setting behind the bluffs
وآنسني فيك النجوم برعيها
The stars befriend me with their grazing,
على الورد مني أن تولى تحية
Farewell greetings to the rose as it turns away
ومهند أخذ العيون بمائه
And Muhand capturing eyes with his tears
ألا اشربها على الناقوس صرفا
Drink it down in one gulp, like a church bell
بدا الصبح من تحت الظلام كأنه
Dawn emerged from beneath the darkness as though
بدر بدا يحمل شمسا بدت
The full moon appears, bearing a sun that has risen,
وركب إذا قطعوا نفنفا
When riders cross a sandy tract
وشكوى الصب من ألم شديد
The agony of morning from intense pain,
أنا إن رمت سلوا
If I were to turn away
ورأيت فوق النحر در
I saw above the stream a flowerpot
ليالي بعت العاذلين إمامتي
Nights I sold my spiritual guidance
كأنما الملقي في علكها
As if the chewed-up morsel in her saliva
هو ظالمي لكن أرق عليه
He is my oppressor, yet I yearn for him
له حسن خلق في العيون إذا بدا
He has a beauty of character in the eyes when he appears
من حاكم بيني وبين عذولي
Who will judge between me and my blamer
وصدغين كالنونين كالليل عقربا
My two cheeks like two N's like the night scorpion
تعانق في الأضلاع قلبي وقلبها
My arms enfold her, and her arms enfold me,
لمقليه ليل له من همومه
For the afflicted, the night has sorrows of its own,
أيها العارض والمهدي
O you who are rejecting and hesitating
وإذا أراد تنزها في روضة
When he wanted to take a stroll in a garden
إذا اعتزلوا كانوا ملوكا أعزة
When they withdraw, they are proud kings,
لا الراء تطمع في الوصال ولا أنا
Neither does hope aspire for reunion, nor do I
كأن الدموع ماء ورد بأوجه
The tears are like rosewater on faces,
فطال علي الليل حتى كأنه
The night stretched long upon me, as though
كأن اندفاع البرق بين رعوده
As if the lightning's flash mid crashing thunder
ولقد عجبت لفعلة المستنصر
I wondered at Al-Mustansir's deed
بحت بحبي ولو غرامي
I searched for my love even if my passion
وقد قطبت شهدا مدامة ثغره
His lips have been sweetened with never-ending honey,
وسارية كالليل لكن نجومها
With hair as dark as the night, but its stars
ومشتمة للأرض حتى كأنها
Cursed and condemned be the land as though
أحن إلى البرق اليماني صبابة
I yearn for the Yemeni lightning out of youthfulness
ألست ترى الناس مثل الظباء
Do you not see people like deer
حلقوا رأسه ليكسوه قبحا
They shaved his head to adorn him with ugliness
مسمعة من غير أوتار
A lute without strings
وأقب كالمحبوب حسنا لم يجد
And he approached, handsome like a beloved whose beauty could not be found
يهنيك ما زادت الأيام في عددك
I congratulate you, the days have not increased your number
أبكيت عرقا دمه أحمر
You shed tears whose blood is red
مقلتي ضرجتك بالتوريد
My tears have stained you with longing
أدرها مثل ريقك ثم صلب
Know it like your saliva then crucify
أومى لتقبيل البساط خنوعا
He gestured for me to kiss the carpet in humility
فيها مجالس مثل الحور قد فرشت
In it are gatherings like maidens who recline
فليس كمن إن تسلهم عطاء
So they are not like those who, if you ask a favor,
أفي الخمر لامت خلتي مستهامها

وكأس كريق الإلف شعشعتها به
With a cup like a flood of intimacy its radiance overwhelmed me,

وجارية جري السفين تسوقها
قبلته قدام قسيسه
شطت نواهم بشمس في هوادجهم
تولت بهم يوم الفراق مطيهم
وجدتك دهرا ثانيا شعرك الدجى
في لحظ طرفك عبرة لسقامه
فأبديت وجها تحت ترجيل لمة
من معشر تنطق أيديهم
وإني لأغضي الطرف عنك جلالة
غرر اللجين وفوقها
ليالي يميني تقبض الكاس مرة
اشرب الكاس يا نصير وهات
ترى في المعالي عنده ما يزينها
قد صحونا على الشراب على فرط
للآس والسوسن والياسمين
وبهماء مثل البحر خرقاء لا ترى
تراها بغير الآل كالبحر ساكنا
أرى سكرات للسراج كأنه
كأن الكتب أجياد الغواني
حبيسك ممن أتلف الحب قلبه
وتأملت من بين الدموع كأنما
ذبت حتى لو انني كنت سرا
وإذا ما امتطى يمينك مثلي
وأحور وسنان الجفون كأنما
لنا حنتم فيها المدام كأنها
مر بنا ملتفتا مسرعا
على كبدي تهمي السحاب وتذرف
وكأنما أخفي عليك بصحتي
جلم من صفاه كاد بأن يخفي
تبدت على البازي من الريش لأمة
أحمامة فوق الأراكة بيني

تأمل بإثر الغيم من زهرة الثرى

ذهب الوفاء فلا وفاء يرتجى
لما بدا في لازوردي
