يا بريقاً من ربا نجدٍ بدا
O gleam from the Lord of Najd that appeared
إذا تبسم البرق الحجازي في الفجر
When the Hijazi lightning smiles at dawn
يدل على فضل الفتى حسن شعره
The youth's fine poetry shows his merit,
مسجد قد أسسوه بالتقى
A mosque they built with piety
زارت بليل ذيله مسدل
She came at night, her train trailing behind
لشمس وبدر هلال بدا
The sun and a crescent moon appeared
أقول لها وشاب بها عذاري
I say to her, while youth still graces us,
يا عاذل دعني مع الهوى فأنا الآن
O critic, leave me with passion, for now my heart is filled with youth
سيرابي فقد أشرق الشرق
My caravan, the East has dawned
لمثلك يا مولى العلا أنظم الشعرا
For the like of you, O Master of Highness, I compose poetry
سبحان إله على الخلائق منان
Glory to God, the Benevolent over all creation
كم للإله على الورى منن
How many blessings the Lord has for mankind,
إليك من الفتاح يا عبده البشرا
To you from Al-Fattah, O servant of good tidings
يا من فؤادك من هم الهوى فاضي
O you whose heart is free from love's concerns
لأسعد باشا السعد لا زال يخدم
As'ad Pasha As-Sa'd still serves
إذا رمت أن تحظى بشعر مهذب

رثاء ذوي العلم الأجلة يندب
A lament for the passing of eminent scholars is urged
سفرت فخلنا بارقاً لاح من بدر
I traveled so let a lightning flash from the full moon appear
يا ذات طرق في الضحى شاديه
O she who walks at dawn exultantly
ألذ حديث ما روته الحبائب
The sweetest talk is what the loved ones recounted,
السعد قال بهذا العرس مفتخراً
The auspicious one said of this wedding boasting
يا صاحبي وسميري
O my companion and friend
قد جاد بالرتبة الأولى لأهليها
He has generously bestowed the highest rank to its rightful people
قد انتقل النجل العزيز ابن راشد
The dear son Rashid has passed away
دمت مولى عجم والعرب
You remain, my Master of Persians and Arabs
يا فارس الفضل في ميدان حلبته
O champion of virtue in the arena of its contest
قرآننا شهد فلا
Our Quran bears witness, so
بذا الديوان نزه منك طرفا
With this diwan, glance away from me
نرى لبنان أهلاً للتهاني
We see Lebanon receiving congratulations,
مولاي فضلك ما فضل يماثله
My Master, your kindness has no equal
هذا كتاب بلاغاتٍ مؤلفه
This is a book of eloquence, authored
فطمت يراعي عن مديح الورى طرا
I stopped praising the people of this world,
جرى القضاء بأن نحيا إلى قدر
Fate decreed that we live according to destiny
أعقود تنظمت من جمان
Jewels of speech that adorn the breasts of the fair,
بمثلك هذا العيد أضحى معيدا
On this blessed Eid you brought joy,
عيان ذا الشعر عنوان لمنشئه
تولد مع جدواك مدحك للحمد
حبي وهو الجنة البهيجة سيان
أرى شكر أهل الفضل فرضاً موكدا
محاسن يوسف جليت علينا
ما ضل من تبع النبي محمدا
عن الناس الاستغناء للمرء ممكن
ألا إن هذا الشعر من أفخر الشعر
نرى الموت للأخيار منا يسارع
نقطا ابن المزن روضات الحمى
لطيبة الغراء ذات النور
ودعتها وفوادي مودع معها
يا ويح من قد أقض مرقده
هذي رياض اثمرت
كف لومي وخلني يا خليلي
أبى الله إلا أن تعز وتحمدا
ألا حي عني يا نسيم نقولا
ألا إن خير الناس من هو أنفع
خليلي كم قد جد في الناس شاعر
لعمرك ما علمت لأي داعي
ثريا تضيء بليل الدجى
يا بني العطار يا عطر دمشق
مولاي أنت المالك الحر
توارد من كل الأنام لك الشكر
أحق الورى بالمدح رب الفضائل
