1. Jewels of speech that adorn the breasts of the fair,
Or gardens wherein bloom lovely flowers,

2. And fruits of every kind in branches.
Or a book containing histories narrated eloquently,

3. And exposition of religions skillfully.
Of concise, yet flawless composition, thus

4. It may be called “The Quick Gathering”.
So may Allah preserve what he has gathered,

5. The beautiful eloquence it contains.
Charming, elegant, exquisite as hyacinth,

6. Wondrous, melodious, graceful in structure.
The like of it we have not heard or seen,

7. Thus we shall guard it in our souls.
May Allah protect the fingers that wrote it,

8. And the heart that conceived those meanings.
What a composer of wondrous eloquence,

9. Surpassing Al-Hamaḏānī in rhetoric!
When I saw it, I knew the saying was true,

10. The Sultan’s words are like the Sultan.
So may Allah reward him on our behalf,

11. Benefiting humanity, exalted in status.
