برهمي في بناريس علم
A Brahmin in the flames of knowledge
نضر الله تراب الشافعي
May Allah bless the soil of al-Shafi'i
إيه يا منكرا أحاديث عشقي
O you who deny my words of love
ظهر الصديق لي في الحلم
My friend appeared to me in a dream
مشعل مصباحنا من نارك
Our torch's flame from your fire
أرأيت الطفل ياذا البصر
Have you seen the child, O keen-eyed one
قطعوا الأرحام بين الأخوة
They severed the ties of kinship between brothers
عبد الإنسان أصنام البشر
The human is a slave to the idols of mankind
أخرجت أرض خجند صانعا
The land of Khujand brought forth a builder
طائر من ظمأ قد جهدا
A bird, weakened by thirst
قصة أخرى بها أدلى إليك
Another story I tell you
إن خطمت الصعب قدت العالما
If you dare the difficult, you lead the world,
نقط النور التي تدعى الذوات
The drops of light called selves
أرأيت الطير في عرس الربيع
Have you seen the birds in the wedding of spring
قلبنا الخفاق يأبى موطنا
Our throbbing heart refuses a homeland
راهب الماضين أفلاط الحكيم
The hermit philosopher of past ages
مؤمناً بالغيب غير غافل
Believing in the unseen, not heedless,
لا تقل في الشرع معنى مضمر
Do not imply any hidden meaning in the law
ألفة الكد شعار الجمل
Endurance is the camel's pride
نضرت منك محياها الحياه
You gave life its vitality
سائل مثل قضاء مبرم
Like an insistent beggar
عصرنا هذا ملئ بالفتن
Our era is full of tribulations
طوف العقل بدنيا العلل
The mind roams the world of suffering
ختم الله إليك الأمما
God sealed the nations for you
إنما يبقى الحياة المقصد
Life's purpose remains,
صبغة الله أنر في قلبكا
The light of God shines in your heart
أمة خلت يداها السننا
A nation whose hands traditions have passed
نغمات المرء عزف المرأة
The tunes of man are woman's melody
أيها الجابي من الأسد الخراج
O you who collects tax from the lion's den
صاح ما المسلم للدنيا احتقر
The Muslim does not care for this world
حديث الروح
The soul's discourse flows to souls effortlessly,
هيكل الأكوان من آثارها
The structure of the universes from its traces
عدة الموت قنوط محبط
Death's tools are despair and dejection
مسلم في حومة الحرب أسر
A Muslim captured
تارك الآفل من قبل الخليل
The one who left Afl before Khalil
أشعرن القلب الله الصمد
ما ارتباط الجمع أنى يوصف
أنت كالورد من الأرض بدا
ليس في أعواد غابى سقط
رأيت الشيخ بالمصباح يسعى
قطع الصبح على الليل السفر
قد علا قومك عن لون ودم
أم عيسى نسبة واحدة
عقدة تنحل من أمر الحياه
أمرها في الكون طرا يحكم
إن عالمكير عالي المنزل
قال سهم مرهف يوم الزحام
رحمة للفرد حجر الأمة
مجتبى هجوير مقصود الأمم
جمل نفسك تربو بالعلف
حرقة الإنسان من كور الأمل
