1. You gave life its vitality
And life saw the expression of its vision

2. The six directions shine with light
From you, and all people follow

3. Your poverty, the treasure of existence
Is exalted by your existence's worth

4. You lit the lamps of life
And gifted people with the softness of rescue

5. Without you, images of the universe
Seem lacking, complaining and lamenting

6. A soul from you launched the sparks
So that clay became from it human

7. And you gave the atoms of light
And power was revealed from their hiddenness

8. You are closer to me than my father and mother
Since my admiring eyes saw your face

9. Your love kindles fire in my body
So let my soul burn up in its flames

10. And my wares are like a rebab
It is the lantern in my ruined house

11. How could it not express the pain of its wounds
How could the glass of its winds not express

12. The Muslim prophet has lost the secret of Islam
Becoming an idolater, this sanctuary

13. In his heart shelters nothing but nonsense
With Manat and Al-Uzza dwelling in it

14. Our Sheikh favors the Brahmin over the Arab
Making the oil of his head reside there

15. He abandoned the Arabs though protected by Arabs
And prolonged his sleep during the non-Arabs' singing

16. So the non-Arabs' cold penetrated his limbs
His tears colder than icy winds

17. He is like a disbeliever fearing death
His chest empty of a living heart

18. His disease could not be cured by any doctor
So I carried the bier to Al-Mustafa

19. I knew him as the water of life
And the Quran's secrets of salvation

20. I spoke of the story of Najd's loved ones
I talked of Najd's meadow in my sighing

21. So my chant illuminated the gathering
And my people knew the secrets of life

22. It was said "Give us Europe's magic"
"And let us be infatuated with the Franks' law"

23. "And give us the nobility of Suleiman's lute"
"And the coolness of Al-Buhturi's poem"

24. Give to the truth that elucidated
What the ignorant did not know

25. If my heart has gone astray, not seeing
Or my tongue conceals other than the Quran

26. You came, O you whose light is the dawn of eras
You, O knower of the secrets of hearts

27. Open the veils of my thoughts and expose them
Purify my meadow's thorns in this age

28. And cut off my life for the sake of the nation
And suffice me from the evil of the faith

29. Take from my meadow the torrential rain
And deprive me of spring's streams

30. Dry up the wind in my vineyard quickly
And fill my atmosphere with lethal poison

31. And humiliate me on the Day of Gathering
And deprive me of kissing your foot

32. Or have I sincerely advised in my statements
And strung pearls from the Quran's secret

33. So your prayer flows and suffices
Through you how many lowly gained honor

34. Ask God, Lord of the Throne for me
To make my passion equal to action

35. Lord, you have blessed me with a sorrowful soul
And destined for me some share of religious knowledge

36. So make my share in action greater
And make my spring's drops into pearls

37. One last hope has stayed in my heart
Since my broken heart settled in this world

38. It is in my chest like my heart lodged
Witnessing the dawn of my early life

39. A hope I kindled from it my blaze
Since my mother and father invoked your name

40. Whenever time betrayed me
And afflicted me with suspicion and tribulation

41. This hope ignited in my heart
And hope grew in it with emancipation

42. It is beneath my earth a essence
A planet unveiling in the night's wings

43. I aspired for a time to the houri's company
And fell for the scintillating heavenly bodies

44. And in intoxication I accompanied the singing girl
When she extinguished the lamp of decency

45. And lightning bolts surrounded my courtyard
And highway bandits invaded my heart

46. And this spell did not leave my soul
And this harm did not leave my purse

47. My mind wore the belt of the deviant
And my soul was invaded by empty ostentation

48. In the shackles of doubt I spent years
And it resides in my head, settled, not leaving

49. I did not attain letters of certitude's knowledge
And in doubt, I am captive from wisdom

50. No light of truth shone in the night of my life
Its night was not illuminated by dawn's rays

51. And my heart concealed this hope
A pearl shone in its shell

52. Then from my eye a repressed tear
And a melody appeared in my heart

53. O you besides whom the heart is heedless
Permit me to remember this hope

54. My conduct never illuminated with deeds
How can one like me have such hope?

55. I am ashamed to reveal it
From you, kindness conceals my audacity

56. O Merciful, through you there is deliverance for people
All I want is to die in the Hejaz

57. A Muslim should abandon what is not God
How can I live in the home of idols?

58. The Muslim's sorrow if death befalls
Is for his remains to lie in a monastery

59. Woe to me that day, and congratulations for tomorrow
If I stay in this sanctuary after my burial

60. Blessed is the land you see as homeland
Blessed is the repentance you see as dwelling

61. The home of my love, my refuge and dwelling
O lovers, what an excellent homeland!

62. My planet whose fortune will rise tomorrow
In the sanctuary's shadows, prepare me a grave

63. So that my restless heart may find rest
And this mercury find tranquility

64. O fate, look upon this peace
You saw the beginning, so look upon the conclusion
