1. Death's tools are despair and dejection
And truly life, do not despair

2. Living is but hopeful arrival
So the despair of the alive is a killing poison

3. Your despair, to it you will return
If you become despondent, it is your end

4. It nurtured disappointment in its bosom
And weakness grew on its kindness

5. Ah, the numbing sleep of life
It is a sign of the weakness of temperament

6. Like kohl in the eye that blinds sight
And turns the dawn a gloomy night

7. A soul with its poisons for life
Every spring with it is a dried ruin

8. And it is a loyal ally to sorrow
Sorrow is but a killer of the alive

9. O prisoner of sorrow, see and listen
To Allah's Messenger: "Do not grieve"

10. That advice crept into his heart
So he became, by it, a loyal friend

11. The Muslim is but like a planet
Constant in his endeavor and work

12. Free your soul from sorrow and leave
If you know God, the shackles of greed

13. The strength of faith revives, so know
"No fear upon them" recite

14. Whose heart "Be not afraid" a heart secure
When he went to Pharaoh the chosen

15. Fear other than God killed deed
And it cut off roads for the living

16. With it determination fears others
And you see the daring fearful through it

17. Whoever nurtured that seed one day in his ruin
Forbidden it the life that revealed it

18. So he is a withered flower that sways
With a paralyzed hand and trembling heart

19. Fear steals the strength of the strong man
And robs the head of its thoughts' power

20. If it appeared to a foe your fear
You'd be as easy to pluck as a rose

21. His sword becomes more deadly in hand
His eye upon you a piercing blade

22. Fear shackled us, and how much
Of raging seas in our time

23. If one day the melody refuses your bloom
It's from fear you wither and halt

24. So rouse your ear, song stirs in it
And the tune shakes the horizons of heaven

25. Every evil secretly held
Its root is fear, if you do look

26. Of the lands of death, a foot forward
Like the "M" of death, a heart darker

27. Its eye disguising life's tracks
Its ear fabricating life's tales

28. Through it flowers deceit and smooth talk
And the hypocrisy of hearts grows from it

29. Its clothes are veil and doubt for lies
Its breast strife and discord within

30. Fear denied the ambition of resolve
It is the hut of an ally of disgrace
