1. A nation whose hands traditions have passed
Like a sand dune here and there

2. The conduct of a Muslim, law is enough
That is the essence of the religion of the Chosen One

3. With the rhythm the melody rises
And without rhythm it is mere clamor

4. In the throat it is but a wave of air
Rhythm makes it into song

5. Speak - do you know what your tradition is
What secret is encoded in your power?

6. The Living Book and the Wise Remembrance
Wisdom in life that remains unfailing

7. In it is the secret of the origin of life
The downtrodden gain strength from its power

8. Its wording, no doubt or alteration in it
A verse, no ambiguity or interpretation in it

9. Power in it that shakes the mountains
And with it the glass throws rocks

10. Cutting off the associations from helpless prey
So the hunter prays to be rid of it

11. This is the last of the Messengers
Sent down as a mercy to the worlds

12. It elevates the stagnant to loftiness
And makes the head bow down in prostration before it

13. The brigands have become guides
From the Book how many books have been transcribed!

14. The nomads, from the lamp flowers
Have been enlightened in thought

15. That which splits the mountains asunder
And the cosmos trembles before it

16. That spring is the source of our hopes
Cradled in the chests of our children

17. Look at the thirsty in the heat of the desert
His eyes red from the blaze of the day

18. His breath like a frightened antelope
His blood boiling in the noon sun

19. Wandering the desert, refusing shelters
Wandering in the waste, scorched

20. These verses leapt in his heart
And settled in it like pearls

21. He read the lesson of the clear verses
And became in truth free, impartial

22. He judged the world completely justly
His throne trampled under his feet

23. Cities we built by his inspiration
And gardens blossomed by his grace

24. If your faith is bound by conventions
The ways of blasphemy, your prison is waiting

25. You broke the command so it is nonsense
Hastening to an unknown thing

26. The Sufi intoxicated by his states
And delighted by the tunes of his words

27. His heart recited the verse of the Iraqi poet
And with the Quran it grew stronger and pure

28. His crown the heavenly throne, wool and mat
His poverty collects a belt for the poor

29. And the preacher's brother rashly says
Lofty words but lowly meanings

30. His words are from Dilmi and the preacher
His actions an unfounded and bizarre oath

31. The Book of God has a right so recite
All that you seek from it so request
