أبونا رسول الله خير الورى طرا
Our father, Messenger of Allah, best of all creation
يا عاذرا لامرئ قد هام في الحضر
O you who reproach a man who is infatuated in settled areas
تساءلني أم البنين وإنها
The mother of sons asked me, and she
فإن كان هذا البعد تأديب مذنب
If this distance is to chastise a sinner
جفاني من أم البنين خيال
The image of the mother of sons has abandoned me
بني لئن دعاك الشوق يوما
My friend, if longing called you one day
مرضت غريبا بين قوم أعزة
I fell ill, a stranger, amongst honored folk,
أيا جهبذا دقت معاني رموزه
O you whose profound symbols have struck meanings
يا رب يا رب يا رب الأنام ومن
O Lord, O Lord, O Lord of mankind and who
عج بي فديتك في أباطح دمر
Oh you who I would sacrifice myself for, in the plains of Deir
ذات الرياض الزاهرات النضر
Oh how I wish I were with you in the gardens of Damascus
أنا حق أنا خلق
I am the Truth, I am Creation
هن إذا ساعدك الدهر
When fate assists you, the wise prevail,
خليلي لا تندم على العتب للحب
My love, do not regret reproaching love,
أقول على صدق لأهل النهى طرا
With truth I say to those who find fault with me
فرضتم عليكم للمتيم سنة
You have imposed upon yourselves as a Sunnah
سلام عليكم طال شوقي إليكم
Greetings to you, my longing for you is long
لا أمل الحب إن كان يمل
Love does not hope if it becomes burdensome
سألت رجال الطب أخبر كلهم
I asked the doctors, all learned men,
أتت مهنئة فليهن مهديها
She came with congratulations, so let us congratulate her guide
لو أنصف الناس قالوا أنتم جبل
If people were fair they would say, you are a mountain
خليلي وافت منكم ذات خلخال
My beloved came to me wearing anklets
أقاسي الحب من قاسي الفؤاد
I suffer the pain of love from one who suffers my heart
أهلا وسهلا بالحبيب القادم
Welcome, my beloved visitor
يا عابد الحرمين لو أبصرتنا
O worshipper of the two holy sites, if you could see us
خليلي لا تجزع من الجوع إنه
My friend, do not despair from hunger, for it
أتاني كتاب لا يمل سماعه
A book has come to me, I never tire of hearing it
يا سيدي يا رسول الله يا سندي
O my master, O Messenger of Allah, O my support
عن الحب ما لي كلما رمت سلوانا
Whenever I speak of love, I see fires of longing blazing in my heart
فذا ديوان سيدنا الكريم
This is the poetry collection of our generous master,
ولو شئت لما أزمع الحي روحة
Had you willed when the living was departing,
أيا نفس إن الأمر غيب فما تدري
O soul, the matter is unseen, so you do not know
الله أعلم أن هذا لم يكن
God knows this was not
تذكرت وشك البين قبل حلوله
I recalled the imminent separation and my eyes overflowed with tears
لنا في كل مكرمة مجال
We have the means for every glorious deed,
ألا فاقر الخليل خليل باشا
O friend of my soul, Khalil Pasha
أحلى المديح مديح خل فاخر
The finest praise is praise of a dear friend
تبخر بعود الطيب لا زلت طيبا
The fragrance of incense still lingers though it has vanished,
أبى القلب أن ينسى المعاهد من برسا
My heart refused to forget the covenants of Bursa
الحمد لله قد خصني
Praise be to God who has blessed me
يا قرة العين قل لي كيف بت فقد
O delight of my eyes, tell me how are you after we parted
سلام عليكم دائم متتابع
Greetings to you, ever continuous
سلام يفوق المسك والند عرفه
A greeting whose fragrance surpasses musk and ambergris
ألا إن قلبي يوم بنتم وسرتم
Alas! My heart, when you left and departed,
صبرا على مضض الخطوب
Patience over the bitterness of steps
أما والذي تعنو لهيبته الورى
By Him whose glory the land and sea revere,
أيا سيدا فاق الكرام بمجده
O master, surpassing the generous with his glory,
أحباب قلبي كم بيني وبينكم
My beloved friends, how much distance lies between us
أوقات وصلكم عيد وأفراح
Times of your arrival are a holiday and joy
نعم ولكم فضل بأشرف دعوة
Yes, and you have the greatest merit
يا سواد العين يا روح الجسد
O darkness of the eye, O spirit of the body
أقول لقوم لا تقيد نصيحتي
I speak to people who do not heed my advice,
وناعورة ناشدتها عن حنينها
The fountain which I asked about her yearning
ماذا على ساداتنا أهل الوفا
What fault lies with our masters, men of loyalty,
خليلي أتاني منك الكتاب
My friend, your letter reached me,
أود بأن أرى ظبي الصحاري
I wish I could see the deer of the deserts
أردد طرفي في الرسرم فلا أرى
I turn my eyes to the painting, yet I see
أخي نلت الذي قد كنت تطلبه
My brother, you have attained what you sought
يا أيها الريح الجنوب تحملي
فلم يكن المولى لأكل عصيدة
أمسعود جاء السعد والخير واليسر
توسد بمهد الأمن قد مرت النوى
بأبي وأمي أفتديك من الردى
خليلي قل لي كيف أمسيت أنني
فديناك لا تعجل بلومك وانتظر
بماذا يكون الكشف في آخر العمر
يا قرة العين عني أن سألت جوى
لئن كان هذا الرسم يعطيك ظاهري
إلى الصون مدت تلمسان يداها
ألا قل للتي سلبت فؤادي
إلام فؤادي بالحبيب هتور
أقول لمحبوب تخلف من بعدي
أيا أهل فن الطب بالله خبروا
بخير لقد أمسيت والقلب شيق
يا ملولا لم يمل
أما آن للخل المريض بأن يبرا
بديعة الحسن بالأضحى تهنيني
الحمد لله تعظيما وإجلالا
ولم أر أعظم من نعمة
سرح سوادك والطروس سماء
تفضل بالقبول لها فإني
ليتهم إذ ملكوني أسجحوا
