1. I wish I could see the deer of the deserts
And watch its specter as the night progressed

2. And seek its proximity though it increases the distance
Of old, from a union that led to estrangement

3. This deer grazes no tether
Nor is content with a neighbor for company

4. Deliberately, it wanders away for a change of scenery
Rich in beauty, it competes with none

5. I joke with it yet it is not amused
I instigate an argument but it does not contend

6. And it admonishes me, cloaking my heart with serenity
For rebuke extinguishes the heat of fire

7. If it has found no root for unity
And brings the specter closer to my dwelling

8. I say to myself, melt away
And my demise is imminent, it has prevailed

9. It takes my life when it appears
With a face in the glow like daylight
