انزل الاوصاب يا افق الاذى

يزعم المستبد ان يد الفو
The tyrant claims the iron fist
النفس تعبث بالجحيم اذا راوا
The soul toys with hell when they saw
زعموا النفي والتتبع والعسف
Roses are red, violets are blue
اذا طلع النحس في امة
When misfortune befalls a nation,
أرى فتكات الجهل دب دبيبها
I see the ravages of ignorance creeping,
علم الشرق انه اليوم اضحى
Lean west today it has become
حياة الفتى جسر لباقي حياته
A young man's life's a bridge to the rest of his years
سوء التصرف للقلاقل باعث
Ill behavior causes much unrest
وروح الفتى في مهده صوت أمه
The spirit of the youth in his cradle is his mother's voice
نشر المعارف سلم من امه
Spreading knowledge is a ladder of its nation
اذا اتخذ الخل عنك بديلا
If vinegar takes your place
ايه يا افق الرزايا والنقم
O horizon of misery and vengeance
أنت بالامس كنت غلا بكف
Yesterday you were a treasure in my palm
أساعدكم يا أهل ودي بساعدي
I aid you, O people of affection, with my arm
انا باك على بلادي اسيفا
I cry for my country, sword in hand
تاقي على المرء احيان تحيره
Sometimes perplexity weighs upon a man,
ان الذي يرتاح للأصنام لا
He who finds comfort in idols
قل على الدنيا سلام واعترف
Say goodbye to this world and confess
سر للحياة فللقوي سر اذا
The secret of life, for the strong, is a secret if
علام ارى هذا الخلاف علام
Why do I see this discord, why
إِلى كل نجم طلعة وافول
To every star that rises and sets
اجل خطيب لدى كل شعب
The finest orator speaks for every nation
لي بالأحبة ما لهم بي انما
My loved ones have no love for me, rather
جاؤوا بثوب الخز في مشيتهم
They came in silk robes in their walk
يظن الفتى أن الفتاة وان سمت
The young man thinks the girl though she's named
يراد بنا مسخ ما خطه
What was designed for us is disfigured
قولوا لذي شغف بالعسف يعشقه
Tell those enamored with oppression, who love it,
بني الغرب كونوا لدينا كما
O people of the West, be with us as
قالوا حللنا نبتغي تمدينكم
They said we seek your civilization
الا انما الدنيا رجال ثلاثة
The people of this world are but three,
خذي بيدي ويلاه قد ملأت صدري
Take my hand, let's go, my heart is full
لا تلوموا الدهر في أعماله
Do not blame fate for its deeds
كفى الشعب عسفا ما يلاقي من القهر
The people have suffered enough oppression and injustice
فوق هذا التل عن هذي الرمال

تامل معي في الغرب والشرق انني

زفوا الفتاة لمثر رغم رغبتها
They marched the maiden to one she did not want
نرى نشاة لا تستقيم فنكتفي

خل اليراع محطما وامسك بكفك

رياض البساتين اشتاقها
The gardens of paradise I yearn for
غنى الضيوف لرب الدار لازمة
The guests sang praise to the host as was their custom
بنو الغرب لا ينسون وقفتنا التي
The people of the West do not forget our stand
ربما اغتر للسكوت ظلوم
Perhaps silence is mistaken for oppression
جعل السجن في البلاد لايواء
