Where help settled on the path

The free man follows it to track

13. And see violation and havoc and remember
I am blind.

14. If the people's voice in their sadness
Stops the passerby,

15. The enemies' blindness in their worries
Erases their faded glory,

16. And the stranger today in his loneliness
Is a crawling scorpion,

17. Tell me, how many fathers they defeated
Who bowed down certainly,

18. And see injustice and tyranny and remember
I am blind.

19. I have long heard the whip’s fall,
What a woe!

20. Then I listen to the moan
Of noble men, ah or owah,

21. They were not the ignorant guilty
Toward whoever we fear,

22. Accompany them, so you may see if they conceal
Their burning fire,

23. And see the tear of grief and remember
I am blind.

24. Have you seen the farm worker walking
His land empty handed,

25. Neglecting his bull and throwing aside his sickle
Beside the plow,

26. Praying while the free man’s livelihood
Is narrow,

27. Overlook his land so you may see
His enemy behind,

28. And see the colonizer in it and remember
I am blind.

29. Some of us are slaves while others are no more
Than palace guards,

30. Bearing burdens, weakened in strength
With no victory,

31. What victory does he hope for, one
Whose waist is dry?

32. They buried his dignity. Nay, they buried
His highest mind.
