حسبي الله أحقاً
My solace is in God, how right He is!
دعوني وتسكاب الدموع السوافك
Let me be, and let the copious tears flow,
ترك النزاهة عندنا
Decency left with us
لله أبعث رغبتي متيقناً
To Allah I send my desire, certain
دنا العيد ليت العيد لم يدن وقته
The feast has drawn near - would that the feast had not drawn near its time
اسمع حديثي فإن الصدق مقبول
Hear my words, for truth is acceptable
بالسعد طالعك المهل
The auspiciousness of your rising star is evident
شوقي إلى ذاك السناء محرك
My longing for that splendor was stirring
رعاك الله ذا الأجر الجزيل
May God grant you ample reward
علق رجاءك بالإله فإنه
Put your hope in God, for no
أيذهب يوم لم أكفر ذنوبه
Shall the day pass when I have not atoned for its sins
أتعتبني عمادي عمد عين
Do you blame me, my pillar, for deliberately avoiding
تجري يمينك في القرطاس سابقة
Your right hand runs on the paper leading,
سلام على من جاء بالحق والهدى
Peace be upon the one who came with truth and guidance,
الغيث في الغيب لا يدري به أحد
The rain in the unseen, no one knows about it
إذا ما علا يأسي يغالب لي الرجا
When my despair grows strong to conquer me,
يا أرحم الخلق يوم الحشر والندم
O most merciful of creation on the day of resurrection and regret
بحبيب القلوب معتمد الحلق
By the beloved of hearts, the trusted intercessor
شرعت في وِردها أشرعت ذابلها
I embarked upon her rose garden though it was withering
مضى رمضان أو كأني به مضى
Ramadan has passed, as though it passed me by
أهدي السلام تحيةً
I send peace as a greeting
أأبا العلاء وأنت تدري ما الذي
O Abul Ala, though you know what
سرى النجم نجم الدين للغرب قاصداً
The star, the bright star, traveled westward
تذاكرن ذكرى أو تهيج اللواعجا
Do memories awaken, kindling passions anew,
لم أكتحل إثمداً ولكن
I have not darkened my eyes from vanity, but rather
يا ليت شعري هل يرى
Oh how I wish I knew, will we meet again
يا رب إن شفيعي من ذنوبي في
O Lord, my intercessor for my sins on
إلى أحمد المختار نهدي تحية
We send greetings to Ahmed Al Mukhtar
دمع بنيران الضلوع يصعد
Tears like fire rise from my ribs
مازال كل حليف
Every ally of God
وحبلى بأبناء لها قد تمخضوا
With child, bearing sons who emerged
اختم بذكر محمد فذكره
Conclude with the mention of Muhammad, for his mention
لله درك من همام
May Allah protect you from grief
صلوا على خير البريةِ خيما
Pray upon the best of creation, whose abode
أهدى إلى خير الأنام تحية
I offer greetings to the best of mankind
يا من تقدس عن أن يحيط وصف بذاته
O You who is sanctified from being
أمشرفي بصفاته وحلاه
أأبا العلاء وأنت مني حلة
لا أمنع الدمع أن يهمى وأن يكفا
جهل الطبيب شكايتي وشكايتي
ابدأ مقالك بالثناء على النبي
مسترخص السوم غال
وصدق قبل قولهم
لا يزور الخليل عندي خليلا
فكل أسى لا تذهب النفس عنده
يا رب بلغ سلامي
سأصبر حتى ينجز الله وعده
